The eighth-generation of Volkswagen's iconic hatchback, the Mk8 VW Golf, makes its official launch in Singapore. Two variants are available at launch, the Golf Mild Hybrid 1.5 eTSI - with three equipment packages (Life, Life Plus, and R-Line) - and the Golf GTI.
What's new outside?
Starting outside, the classic Golf body lines remain, wrapped with modern touches like LED headlights (standard across the range) in front. The Golf's distinctive C-pillar design remains very much intact when viewed sideways. Strong character lines running from front to back ensures the Mk8 Golf retains a taut, muscular presence.
The non-GTI Golf models are powered by a sole mild hybrid drivetrain option, which is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, integrated to a 48V generator (150 PS, 250 Nm). The mild hybrid tech allows the car to coast with the engine off. Active Cylinder Management can shut down two of the four cylinders when conditions permit. Transmission is a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
Golf GTI's EA888 2.0-litre engine
With the Golf GTI, power comes from the venerable EA888 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine (245 PS, 370 Nm). It is paired to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic as well. This GTI features Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which integrates control of the electronic differential locks and the DCC for customised dynamic driving.

We did a direct conversion to RM to give you a better idea, but it is not reflective of how much the Mk8 Golf will sell for in Malaysia, when we do get it.
