According to reports from India, Toyota recently registered the Belta name in India, fuelling rumours that Toyota could be rebadging yet another Suzuki sedan. The sedan in question could be the Suzuki Ciaz, which is said to replace the Toyota Yaris sedan.
For those uninitiated, the Toyota Belta name is not new to Toyota. The Belta name was last used on the XP90-generation Toyota Vios that was sold in Japan.
Just like the Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser, which are manufactured by Suzuki, the upcoming Toyota Belta will carry over much of the Ciaz’s design elements, albeit with a different grille. The rest of the Belta, including its interior and powertrains are expected to mirror the Ciaz as well.
