As Tesla’s CEO and father to a child with HTML coding language for a name, Elon Musk, continues to discuss with Indonesian officials, the trendy electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer has just registered a subsidiary in Thailand. Just like many hot artists, it seems Malaysia is nothing more than a void for a hot brand like Tesla.
Our colleagues from the Land of Smiles, AutoFun TH have picked up registration details on Tesla (Thailand) Co. Ltd. The company was registered on 25-April 2022 with a registration capital of THB 3 million (~RM 386k).
The company also listed three names in its Board of Directors which are:
David Jon Feinstein – Senior Director of Global Trade and New Markets at Tesla Inc
Vaibhav Taneja – Chief Accounting Officer at Tesla India Motors and Energy
Yaron Klein – Treasurer of Tesla Inc
Feinstein was also appointed as the Director of Tesla India as well as being on the board of “other Tesla units, including in Slovenia” according to Tesla’s organisation chart.
Does this mean Tesla will be eyeing to enter the Thai market officially? It’s too soon to say at this point since this is just a business registration and things might fall out with not a single Tesla model having sold through official channels.
For example, Tesla India had to put its plans to sell EVs in the subcontinent on hold, abandoned a search for showroom space, and reassigned some of its domestic team after failing to secure lower import taxes according to Reuters.
For now, the only means of getting a Tesla in Thailand is through recond dealers, much like most of its neighbours in Southeast Asia. Singapore is the only ASEAN market to have an official Tesla sales channel.
