The Thailand government has not announced any bans on ICE vehicles. Instead, it has set a target for EVs. Bangkok Post reports that the Thailand government aims for EVs to account for 30% of the national production by 2030.
The “EV” term used by the Thai Board of Investment includes Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Plug-In Hybrid Electrci Vehicle (PHEV), and Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV). The 30% target will include cars, motorbikes, and buses.
At present, EVs in Thailand are enjoying a three-year tax holiday and battery electric vehicle manufacturers are benefitting from an 8-year corporate income tax waiver.

The Board of Investment has already granted EV privileges to more than a dozen companies, including Nissan, Toyota Motor Corp, Mercedes-Benz AG, BMW AG, and Energy Absolute Plc’s Mine Mobility.
In an interview with the Bangkok Post, Thailand Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said that measures to achieve the 2030 goal include encouraging the use of electric vehicles by state agencies, tax benefits and parking discounts for buyers, more investment incentives for companies, and developing charging infrastructure across the country.
