The Toyota Corolla Cross continues to assert its dominance against rivals in Thailand by capturing the Kingdom’s best-selling sub-compact crossover title for the first half of 2021.

According to data compiled by Thailand’s Headlight Magazine, the Corolla Cross captured 35.5% market share with 9,653 units sold between January and June 2021.

Following the crossover in second place is the MG ZS with 6,378 units sold. The MG was the Kingdom’s best-selling sub-compact SUV in the same period last year but once the Corolla Cross made its debut, the ZS couldn’t recapture the top spot.

Taking third and fourth place are the Mazda CX-30 (4,194 units) and the Honda HR-V (2,738 units). You read that correctly, the CX-30 outsold the HR-V in the Kingdom in the first half of the year.

Perhaps the brand-new HR-V that was unveiled in Japan (as the Vezel) and Europe could be what most buyers are anticipating for?

Rounding up the rest of the list are the Mazda CX-3 (2,227 units), the Toyota C-HR (918 units), the Nissan Kicks (620 units), and the Subaru XV (434 units).

According to the Thai automotive site, the reason for the Kicks’ poor position despite being a fairly new model (it was launched in 2020) was due to lack of display units.

That being said, the Corolla Cross continues its dominance in the market where it made its global debut and is also capturing sales elsewhere around the world, including Malaysia. It is due to launch in Japan in September and in America by 2022.
