The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 producing 429 hp and 520 Nm of torque remains, with a 48 V starter-alternator motor providing an additional 21 hp and 249 Nm, nudging the power temporarily up to a total of 451 hp and 770 Nm when needed.

It solder through a nine-speed automatic gearbox and AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, with the option to transfer the torque through the rear-wheel. The E53 wears standard 19-inch wheels or optional 20-inch.

0-100km/h will take the Sedan 4.5 seconds and 4.6 seconds in the Estate, and top speed is limited to 250km/h. Opt for the optional AMG Driver’s package, and you’ll gain additional 20km/h more.

The AMG Ride Control+ air suspension allows five driving modes at your disposal; Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. Previously available only for the eight-cylinder AMG model, the AMG Dynamic Plus Package has been offered too. The highlight? Drift Mode – perfect for slaying tires.

Interior is all the usual AMG affair, sports seats in black Artico/Dinamica microfiber, red contrast stitching and carbon fiber trim. If you are not a fan of the red seatbelt however, these can be swapped to black colour at no additional cost.

Mercedes-Benz’s latest infotainment system, MBUX, comes standard. Apart from your usual Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Burmester stereo and navigation, there are AMG-only display options named ‘Modern Classic’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Supersport’.
