As we welcome the Mercedes AMG A45 S and AMG A35 to our shores, it is a good time to have an overall look of the range of Mercedes-Benz’s C-segment hatchback available in Malaysia. We currently have 4 variants available for the A-Class;  two with the AMG badge and two without.

The AMG models come with the Mercedes-Benz 4Matic all-wheel-drive system while non-AMG models come standard as front-wheel-drive. All A-Class models are turbocharged, albeit with varying engine displacements and varying power outputs.

Unfortunately, the range-topping A-class available in Malaysia is only the AMG A45 S with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder M139 engine. The 2.0 L turbo A45 is unlikely to make its debut in Malaysia. Hence, A-Class variants available in Malaysia are the A200, A250, AMG A35, and AMG A45S.

At the bottom of the range is the A200, which is your standard C-segment hatchback. With a 1.3L turbocharged M262, the A200 manages 165 PS maximum power output and 250 Nm of torque. Both A200 and A250 come with 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmissions.  

A step above the A200 is the A250 which is equipped with multi-link rear suspension, and a bigger displacement engine. Still only propelling the front wheels, the A250 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged M260 engine with 227 PS maximum power output and 350 Nm torque.

Going higher up the ladder, we enter AMG territory with the A35. With a RM 100k price jump from the A250, you get all-wheel-drive, 7-Speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G transmission, 80 PS more than the A250, and a whole lot of goodies. AMG enhancements such as the adaptive AMG Ride Control Suspension and AMG Dynamic Select for driving modes are also available. The A35 has wider tyres and bigger wheels.

Topping the list of the A-Class line-up in Malaysia is the AMG A45S. With even wider 245/35Z19 tyres and Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive, you are sure to get the most out of the 421hp from the turbocharged 2.0L M139. The choice is yours to make.
