The Neta V will be launching in Malaysia soon and it is set to be one of the cheapest brand-new battery electric vehicle (BEV) money can buy.

While Neta has yet to announce prices of the Malaysian-spec Neta V, we took liberty to compare prices of the model in markets where its currently on sale, namely Thailand and China.

Over in the Kingdom, the sole Neta V is priced at THB 549,000, or roughly RM 72k. At that price, the Neta V is perhaps one of the cheapest EV in Thailand, undercutting models like the BYD Atto 3 (THB 1,099,900 to THB 1,199,900) or even the upcoming BYD Seagull (~THB 799,999, or roughly RM 104k).

For context, the Neta V is priced right smack into the same price bracket as Thailand’s B-segment Eco cars, like the Toyota Yaris Ativ (THB 549,000 to THB 699,000). The Yaris Ativ for Thailand is largely similar to our Vios, albeit with a smaller naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre engine.

In China, Hozon Auto, the manufacturer of Neta vehicles, offers several variants of the Neta V. To keep things fair, we’ll pick the upper spec, 400-km range variants. Here, the Neta V is priced between RMB 90,900 to RMB 103,800.

Just like Thailand, the Neta V’s prices in China also overlap several B-segment sedans. The China-spec Toyota Vios (previous generation NSP151, not AC100) is priced between RMB 73,800 (~RM 47k) to RMB 94,800 (~RM 61k).

Moreover, the Neta V’s price is also within the same ballpark as the Geely Emgrand (RMB 69,900 / ~RM 45k to RMB 129,800 / ~RM 84k), presumably will be launched here as the Proton S50.

As for EV rivals in China, the Neta V’s prices are very competitive and is right smack in the price range of other small-sized EVs.

One such example is the Geometry E. Manufactured by Geely, the Geometry E is one of the company’s most affordable EVs, priced between RMB 79,800 (~RM 51k) to CNY 103,800 (~RM 67k).

Like the Neta V, the Geometry E also possesses a tall hatchback, almost SUV-like silhouette. Geely offers 8 variants of the Geometry E in China, offering a range of 320 km on lower variants, up to 401 km on other variants.

Closer to home, Neta Malaysia will preview the Neta V at the 2023 Malaysian Autoshow next week. Seeing that the Neta V is priced similarly to a Toyota Vios in Thailand and China, could the upcoming EV receive the same treatment here, priced within the RM 90k to RM 100k price bracket?
