It might seem like an avalanche of news and information about the all-new 2023 Perodua Axia D74A today and unfortunately that’s not slowing down any time soon. Perodua has reported that the new entry-level model in their line-up has already garnered 3,591 bookings as of today morning, much of it for the more premium variants.
Previewed today to selected members of the media with a short drive thrown in; which you can read about here, the carmaker reported that the majority of the bookings were for the higher grade SE and flagship AV variants.

Perodua explained that they indeed foreshadowed that trend based on the improved technology fitted in those variants that made it a much better value proposition, even with the slight price hike.
Earlier this year, the carmaker announced some bold sales targets for 2023, aiming to sell a staggering 314,000 units (22 per cent jump over 2022 target)… or about 45 per cent of the total industry volume (TIV). To put it in perspective, that would mean almost one of every two new cars sold this year would be a Perodua.

Given 2022’s sales performance, nobody would bet against Perodua hitting their target. Last year, the carmaker surpassed its targeted 247,800 units by November 2022 and ended the year at 282,019 units. That was an increase of 48.2 per cent.
Although sales figures for the initial months of a new model will be higher, Perodua are expecting the Axia sales to settle around 5,700 units monthly; or 68,400 units for the year.

During the press conference, it was also mentioned that Perodua wouldn’t be able to fulfil around 44,000 orders for the outgoing Axia.
On the bright side, sales advisors have been communicating with these customers regarding this and suggesting they upgrade to the new Axia. Most of them have agreed and switched their orders despite the price hike, indicating the success of the value-for-money proposition.
