In China, when a conversation starts on legendary cars the Haval H6 C-segment SUV is usually mentioned in the same breath as Porsche 911, VW Golf, and BMW M5. This is because the H6 is China’s best-selling C-segment SUV since 2015 beating out the likes of the Geely Bo Yue, we know it better as the Proton X70, and the Honda CR-V.
We’re really not joking when we say that China views the Haval H6 as a legendary car. Since it was first launched in 2011, the SUV quickly became Great Wall Motor’s cash cow and was even instrumental in getting Haval its standalone brand status.
Buyers were taken by the H6's spacious interior, good looks, and its constant system updates that keeps the car up to date with the latest technology. This has helped the Haval H6 gather a mass following among younger tech-driven buyers.
Haval has also done what they can to add fire to the sale numbers. Throughout the years the H6 has been on sale, the company has released a Coupe version while also introducing numerous special trims and accessories that would appeal to everybody's taste.
In 2019, Haval launched the third generation H6, it came powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 169 PS and 285 Nm. It also comes with Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) updates so the SUV gets the latest technology at all times.
The car you see on this page is a new addition to the variant line-up that Haval launched at the 2020 Guangzhou Auto Show.
It is powered by Haval’s 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 227 PS and 327 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT and power is sent to all four wheels. From our research, this 2.0-litre turbocharged H6 is the only version with four-wheel-drive.
On the inside, the new 2.0-litre variant is similar to the standard 1.5-litre H6 variant. The driver gets a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster paired with a head-up display while the infotainment unit is an Android operated 12.3-inch touchscreen display.
The only add-on on the new 2.0-litre variant is a 360-degree reverse camera.
Though it is a C-segment SUV, the H6 is much larger than the usual C-segment SUV choices we have in Malaysia.

Perhaps this is why the H6 continues to be the best-selling SUV in China, outselling the Geely Bo Yue by more than 54,000 units between January 2020 and September 2020.

There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
