That the phrase 'slow car fast' being one of our favourites is not in question – and this 2022 Toyota Agya GR Sport (aka our Perodua Axia twin) in full racing garb has only cemented our affections.

Built for the Indonesia Sentul Series of Motorsport (ISSOM) 2022 race calendar, this spunky hatch competes for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Indonesia (TGRI) team in the Indonesian Touring Car Race (ITCR) 1200 National Championship class.

Aside from a few handling upgrades – the wheels and stance are telltale signs – these cars' mechanicals are tweaked too, coming with better brake pads, uprated full exhaust system, and a remapped ECU.

These cars run on RON 98 petrol, and oh, of course it's manual too.

The Axia's angry cousin trades paint in the ITCR 1200 series with Honda's entrant, the Brio RS with 90 PS and 110 Nm.

As Malaysia's own Toyota Vios Challenge testifies, these relatively small numbers frequently result in big action: since everyone are on equal terms, it's pure driver skills that provide the final X factor.
