Recently, we ran a couple of stories on Proton auctioning off some of their older cars - including the Proton Wira PERT.
A few articles down the line and with netizens’ support, a number of sought-after models were withdrawn from auction.
That said, the Wira PERT was still sold - thankfully with a happy end. Mfa Bob, the new owner of the rallying Wira, recently shared on Facebook that he would be restoring the car to its former glory.
PERT stands for Petronas Eon Racing Team and was founded in the 1980s. They were the precursor to Proton R3 (Race, Rally, Research) that also had a few bangers of their time - most notably the Proton Satria R3.
Opinions were divided over Proton’s decisions to auction off the cars, which included several EV concepts.
For now, let’s just be thankful to the Wira PERT’s new owner who has decided to take on this valiant project - and hope for many more soon!
