Toyota Thailand has expanded its GR Sport family to include the Fortuner with the launch of the new 2021 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport. The new Fortuner GR Sport will be positioned as the new range-topping variant, superseding the Fortuner Legender 2.8.

The new Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is the third model in Toyota Thailand’s range to receive the GR Sport branding. Other models in the GR family include the Toyota Hilux and Toyota Corolla Altis.

A heavily-camouflaged mule was spotted in Thailand back in July, with the only hint of its GR Sport pedigree being the red-painted brake calipers.

Being a GR Sport model, this new Fortuner variant gains a long list of visual enhancements, including a unique body kit, larger 20-inch alloy wheels (lower rung variants get 17- and 18-inch units, and red-painted brake calipers. There is also a variant-specific spoiler for this Fortuner.

Peek inside and you’ll spot a smattering of red and back highlights, as well as GR emblems on the steering wheel, carpet mats, engine start/stop button, and front seats. Aluminium pedals further add to the Fortuner GR Sport’s overall sportier ambience.

Like the recently-launched Toyota Hilux GR Sport, the Fortuner GR Sport is also powered by the same turbodiesel 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV unit, producing 204 PS and 500 Nm, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The sportier Fortuner variant also gains a revised suspension set-up, which Toyota said has been specially tuned for improved handling and comfort.  

Safety equipment of the Fortuner GR Sport mirrors the Legender 2.8, featuring the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Pre-Collision System (PCS), and Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Three body colours are offered in Thailand – Emotional Red, Pearl White CS, and Attitude Black Mica. And yes, all three colours are found on Toyota’s GR Sport logo.

In Thailand, the new 2021 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is priced at THB 1,879,000 (~RM 240k) for the Attitude Black variant, while the Emotional Red and Pearl White CS variants are priced at RHB 1,899,000 (~RM 243k).
