Sitting in a quiet corner at the ongoing 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon is this Premium Crystal Red Metallic 2022 Honda HR-V Modulo X Concept. This HR-V is sold as the Vezel in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Similar to the Honda Jazz Modulo X that went on sale in Japan last year, this amped-up HR-V gets a host of aerodynamic and handling improvements.

The most noticeable change is the revamped front fascia, which now gets a “beak-like” trim and an X-motif bumper. The resculptured front bumper, according to Honda, isn’t just for looks, there are aerodynamic gains.

In fact, famed Japanese Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya gave his valuable input during the development phase of this tuned crossover.

Other niceties include unique dark-finished LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, retuned suspension set-up and black finishing on the tailgate spoiler, side mirror covers. Inside, the HR-V Modulo X Concept gets a model-specific red stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift boot, while the front seats and engine push start button get Modulo X branding on them.

As the name suggests, the HR-V Modulo X Concept is a concept car, but Honda is expected to put the car into production later this year.

While the Japanese can look forward to the HR-V Modulo X later this year, back home in Malaysia, the all-new 2022 Honda HR-V will likely be arriving real soon.

It remains to be seen what powertrain options will be offered on the Malaysian-spec HR-V, but globally, it is available either with the petrol-electric i-MMD hybrid system or a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre unit.
