Our fellow media friend Tom Goh from zerotohundred.com will once again be participating in Season 4 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Malaysia Vios Challenge. Once again, Tom will be racing in car #33, in the mid-tier Sporting Class, under Team S&D Tama Motorsports.
S&D Tama, better known as Toyota Penang, is a Japanese Toyota dealer that has expanded to Malaysia. It’s the local arm of Netz Toyota Tama, which has been operating in Japan for nearly 60 years.
The first round of Season 4 will take place in Sepang this weekend. Practice session starts today.
Racing in Sepang which should offer Tom a little bit more advantage as he is more used to racing in a circuit like Sepang than the tight street-format circuits that typically dominate TGR Malaysia’s calendar.
In fact, challenging himself to race in a different environment like a street circuit was the main reason why he wants to participate in the Vios Challenge.
Like a true racer, Tom is someone who will race anything on wheels. “Fast or slow, a race car is a race car,” is what he always says. In fact, Tom says the Vios Challenge is one of the most difficult races he has participated in his racing career.
Although it’s ‘just a Vios,’ the difference is that everyone is racing the same car, and has the same power. Pure driving talent is the only thing that separates winners from losers. No excuses.
Here's a recap of Tom's first win at last season's race in Bandar Malaysia.
Even highly experienced racers like Tengku Djan have seen themselves making costly mistakes and losing a race, which goes to show how stiff the competition is.
WapCar.my joins TGR Vios Challenge, sort of….
Meanwhile, we at WapCar.my will also be participating in the Vios Challenge, not in the same way as Tom, but one of our editors Eric has signed up as a pit crew for Kenny Lee of Kegani Racing (car #38), in the top-tier Super Sporting Class.
Although Kegani Racing is better known in Malaysia as a workshop that specializes in Suzuki, partly due to their participation in endurance racing with a Swift Sport, but actually Kegani Racing has even more experience with Toyota cars. Kenny last raced a ST4-class Toyota 86 in Japan’s Super Taikyu series.
Kegani Racing’s technical team is also responsible for setting up Tom’s car for Team S&D Tama. That’s some pretty good camaraderie among fellow racers.
We wish Team Kegani Racing and Team S&D Tama Motorsports a good race weekend ahead.
