This smart van is the perfect delivery ‘man’ during the pandemic

This strange-looking van is a post box on wheels that drives itself to its destination to deliver its contents! The smart van is used in China to deliver online shopping without human assistance, which is perfect during the Covid-19 pandemic.

As China continues its battle against Covid-19, online businesses have been booming and the demand for shipping and delivery has grown too. Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com created the vans to meet the growing instant delivery demand.

Using radars and computer vision cameras, the van is able to avoid various obstacles like vehicles, whether stationary or moving, and pedestrians. The onboard computer can even adjust the van’s route when necessary.

The van currently operates in 8 Chinese cities and serves only locations close to existing delivery stations.

Other big e-commerce companies, like Alibaba, are also developing automated delivery vans like this smart van by JD.com.
