The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has caught up with the driver of the Volvo XC90 that was seen cruising along on the motorcycle lane. Upon questioning, the driver claims that he was only following Waze when he found himself on the motorcycle lane.
Before you can ask: no, the driver was not drunk. This was confirmed by Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal. The reason why the driver had forced himself onto the motorcycle lane because his Waze had directed him to it.
It turns out that the 53-year-old driver’s Waze was set to “Motorcycle” in the GPS app’s vehicle mode.
This was a “Today I Learned”/ TIL moment and many drivers expressed their surprise at the different modes. Some actually went on to discover that Waze really does have a different set of directions for motorcyclists.
But we still question the common sense of this whole situation. Surely a seasoned driver would know better than to force their way into the motorcycle lane...
