To ease congestion, DBKL to introduce more tidal flow lanes in 4 areas

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced plans to introduce more ‘tidal flow’ lanes on the Seremban-Kuala Lumpur Highway, Jalan Cheras, Jalan Istana, and the Pahang roundabout area. 

In a report by Bernama, Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said that the implementation of more tidal flow lanes in the capital during peak hours is to help reduce traffic congestion.

DBKL is still looking into more details at the implementation of tidal flow lanes on the Seremban-KL Highway to disperse traffic in and out of the city centre during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the existing 4 km-long tidal flow on Jalan Cheras will be extended to 8 km until Jalan Maharajalela.

Jalaluddin said that the initiative was a medium-term solution to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Other than that, DBKL has also identified 13 main road locations that are congestion hot spots, including Jalan Kuching, Jalan Yew, Jalan Ampang, and Jalan Tun Razak.

Jalaluddin also announced the expansion of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) near the Bandar Tasik Selatan area with immediate effect as part of the means to reduce congestion in the area.

As it is, there are already two backup lanes with ongoing construction work, so the council has decided to upgrade it to three lanes permanently.

Tidal flow lanes are ‘reversible’ lanes designed to improve traffic flow during peak periods by making an extra lane available for vehicles travelling along the busier side of the road.
