UMW Toyota Motor registered 6,767 units in April 2023. The figure is down 25.9 percent from March 2023 but it’s much lower than the 41 percent reduction experienced across the industry.
The reduction in April’s sales after the spike in March is to be expected, as March’s numbers were unusually high due to the rush to fulfill outstanding orders before the vehicle registration cutoff date to qualify for sales (SST) exemption.
The government’s post-pandemic economic stimulus package allowed for locally assembled (CKD) cars booked between June 2020 to June 2022 to be exempted from paying SST.

Year-to-date (YTD) sales for 2023 totaled 31,986 units, up 9 percent from the same four-month period in 2022.
Toyota’s market share now stands at 13.4 percent.
Its top-3 best-selling models are Toyota Vios, Hilux and Corolla Cross, in that order. Toyota didn't reveal the breakdown of the numbers by model but in 2022, these three models contributed 69 percent of the company's total sales.
