As much as Honda and Nissan’s been hogging the sedan limelight in in Malaysia, Toyota's going straight for the jugular with a hypercar!
As much as Honda and Nissan’s been hogging the sedan limelight in in Malaysia, Toyota's going straight for the jugular with a hypercar!
Leave aside the fact that they’ve won the 24 Hours of Le Mans - this freaky thing Toyota showcased is the real star of the weekend.
Word on the ‘webs say that it could be Toyota’s hypercar and as far as looks are concerned, we’re convinced too.
First, it’s got no roof, second, it’s got properly fat wheel arches, a pointy front with air intakes that look like they could swallow a child and all manner of aero flics, strakes and slats.
Based on the two-time Le Mans-winning TS050 hybrid race car, the Super Sport will most likely be powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
No problems there, it’ll be blazingly quick, and it’ll not sound half bad either:
Usually, pre-production hypercars like these aren’t much to talk about but this time it’s different because of a detail: Toyota has submitted a patent application for the moniker ‘GR010’.
So, we know that GR stands for Gazoo Racing - makers of the cuckoo GR Yaris. GR is Toyota’s performance arm, and having them carry this new hypercar suits their model lineup of high-performance cars.
010 though, could be a callback to the TS010, which was Toyota’s Group C racer back in the nineties.
Never thought we’d talk about a Toyota hypercar, but stranger things have happened before. What do you think?
