To further advocate the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) launched the xEV Centre, a learning and development facility for electrification and green energy capabilities.
The launch of the centre is in line with the Indonesian government’s vision to reduce carbon emissions by 41 percent by 2030.
Located in Toyota Indonesia’s plant in Karawang, the facility will encompass all eco-friendly vehicles. This includes Flexi Engine (better known as bio-fuel to us), hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV), and fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).
Hence when coming up with a name for the centre, Toyota Indonesia decided to use the letter ‘X’ as a means to include all forms of eco-friendly cars and also leave a possibility to include any new electrification technology that will come up in the future.
For now, the xEV Centre has only opened its doors to Phase One with Phase Two and Three planned for the future. Phase One of the centre will focus on presenting electrification in an easy-to-learn format.
This includes an HEV, PHEV, BEV showcase and driving experience, a cut body to show the important components of an EV as well as information on what each component does. The centre also has outdoor charging stations for public use.
To further make it easier for the public to understand green technology, Toyota Indonesia has also separated the centre into four zones that will individually show off environmental initiatives in detail.
For Phase 2, Toyota hopes to expand the centre to include an Eco-Renewable Energy and Research area that will focus on showcasing how hydroelectric power plants, windmills, waterwheels, hydrogen, and solar panels will benefit the environment.
