Toyota Yaris Cross leads compact SUV sales in Thailand in 2024 with 37.1% market share

According to sales data gathered by Autolife Thailand, 95,698 compact SUVs were sold in the Kingdom in 2024. It is worth noting that the automotive publication groups lower C-segment SUVs like the Mazda CX-30 and Toyota Corolla Cross as well as A-segment SUVs like the Honda WR-V together with the B-segment models.
Thai consumers see all small SUVs in the same group as they are also priced competitively.
Of the total compact SUVs sold last year, the majority (85.3%) consisted of internal combustion engine (ICE) models which include hybrids. The remaining 14.7% consisted of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) led by the BYD Atto 3 which sold 7,747 units.
The Chinese electric crossover was the fourth best-selling compact SUV in Thailand last year below the Toyota Yaris Cross (35,500 units), Honda HR-V (20,053 units), and Toyota Corolla Cross (15,032 units).
Combined, the top three Japanese SUVs held a dominant 73.8% market share in the compact SUV category but it was Toyota that came out victorious with a combined 52.8% market share between its two models.
Unsurprisingly, the BEV segment is wholly controlled by Chinese brands. Aside from the Atto 3, two other Chinese BEVs entered the top 10 of the compact SUV segment with the GAC Aion Y Plus (3,874 units) and Neta X (1,287 units) placing fifth and ninth respectively.
Other Chinese brands in the BEV category include MG, Zeekr, and Chery which sold the Jaecoo 6 and Omoda C5 under their respective sub-brands. The Omoda C5 is sold as the Omoda E5 in Malaysia.
