Although the numbers may seem impressive, keep in mind that the Yaris’ lead may not last for long, seeing that Honda introduced the brand-new Honda City Hatchback in Thailand back in November 2020. Deliveries of the Honda City Hatchback only started in January 2021, so the sales figures are not reported yet.
For comparison, the equally-new Toyota Yaris Ativ (Vios to us), is no match when it comes to the GN-series Honda City. We expect the City Hatchback to perform the same, outselling the Toyota Yaris over the next couple of months.
To recap, Toyota introduced the improved Yaris back in August 2020, updating its little hatchback with features such as LED headlights, Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and a new head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Unlike the Malaysian-spec Toyota Yaris, the Thai-spec car features a smaller 1.2-litre petrol engine in order to quality for Thailand’s Eco Car incentives.
