The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will be launched soon, this Friday on 14-January to be exact. UMW Toyota had arranged a test drive event for the media earlier this week and during the session, they’ve shared a few insights with the media.

Director of marketing at UMW Toyota, Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain, said that the company is expecting 40 percent of buyers for the Corolla Cross to pick the hybrid variant. 

Shamsor added that the Corolla Cross Hybrid is expected to hold its value well in the used car market, judging by the resale value of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is even higher than the petrol-only variants.

The company also expects that the 8-year warranty for all hybrid related components including the high-voltage battery, inverter, and power management ECU will give buyers a peace-of-mind and boost their confidence in the hybrid technology.

In the event of a battery change outside the warranty coverage, replacement cost currently stands at RM 7,000, but UMW Toyota did mention that it is expected to get cheaper over time.

Bookings for the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid have been open since October 2021 with an estimated price of RM 137,000. Confirmed pricing is expected to be revealed during the launch.

The company added that there is currently no supply chain disruption, and buyers who are looking to book one can expect delivery within one month.

Just to recap, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is powered by a 1.8-litre 2ZR-FXE Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine, supplemented by an electric motor that allows for a combined system output of 122 PS, while an e-CVT handles transmission duty.

Safety wise, it gets the full Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite with Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
