On Monday, a photo of a notice posted at a police station - stating that due to a certain 'Instafamous celebrity’, anybody who wishes to apply for an interstate permit will be required to provide proof of their activities on each day of their application - went viral. Now, Sinar Harian reports that the notice has been removed.
When asked about the notice, ACP Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon, Cheras district police chief, refused to comment but only reminded the public that interstate travel permits will only be issued to those with a valid reason to travel.
He said that although the notice has been removed, applications for the travel permit will still require proof of reason.
Officers on duty have also been reminded to make sure appliers provide has proof before approving their applications.
Previously, the notice was put up following the controversy surrounding Insta celebrity Neelofa’s apparent ‘work trip’ to Langkawi.
But based on the photos and videos uploaded on the celeb’s social media, the trip turned out to be a honeymoon rather than a work trip as claimed in her travel permit.
Her posts have not only sparked an uproar amongst Malaysians but also caught the attention of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). The entrepreneur is now under investigation for both her wedding’s lack of social distancing and also her misuse of the travel permit.
Be reminded that PDRM will be carrying stricter SOPs at roadblocks during the Ramadan period. Anybody found to be travelling without an interstate permit or lacking complete documents will be issued a compound immediately.
