The all-new Honda HR-V has been launched in Indonesia and while Malaysians are waiting for its eventual arrival, those in the States will be getting a completely different HR-V come April 2022.
The upcoming US-spec HR-V will feature a sportier and more Ford-like design based on the sketches that were revealed earlier this year. Now, American Honda Motor Co has released a single teaser image of its rear taillight in anticipation of its 4-April reveal.
It’s already pretty telling that the American HR-V will be getting a taillight that is slightly similar to that of the Honda Civic FE. By comparison, the HR-V sold in the rest of the world (and the one we’ll be getting) looks slimmer.
Going by the American HR-V’s sketches, it might appear that Honda wanted a more youth-centric design for its entry crossover. Going by the recent model launches by the Big H in America including the Acura Integra and the Honda Civic FE, it seems that sporty is the way to go.
Honda has yet to reveal the powertrains for the American HR-V but expect it to share engines with the Civic FE. These are the naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre i-VTEC (158 PS/187 Nm) and the turbocharged 1.5-litre VTEC (180 PS/240 Nm).
The outgoing HR-V comes with either front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) and whichever drivetrains are selected, it is paired to a CVT automatic. An e:HEV hybrid could also be introduced in the States later which could make it the first hybrid HR-V offered there.
Things will be looking different for the HR-V in America and it is a model that Honda is banking on with buyers looking for an affordable car. The outgoing HR-V is also the cheapest model in Honda’s US lineup as the Jazz (known as Fit) had been discontinued.
