U-Turn No.2: PDRM will continue accepting old MITI permits 01

In the latest twist of events, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has announced that they will be accepting all permits regardless if it is the latest version or the old MITI letter issued before 31 May 2021.

Previously, it was announced that all MITI letters issued before 31-May-2021 will expire once the total lockdown during the third Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented on 1-June.

This has left employers nationwide scrambling to renew their permits with, first the ‘relevant ministries’, then back with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Although MITI has since set up a more stable registry system with the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0, as well as a special operation centre to make approvals faster, many business operators are still having a hard time registering for the permit to continue operations during the total lockdown.

As such PDRM officers manning the many roadblocks around the country were told on 1-June to allow a 3-day grace period for employers to get their authorisation letters in order. So old MITI letters were still accepted until 3-June-2021.

But come Thursday, Bukit Aman’s Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDN) Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC), M.V. Srikumar M. Nair, told the media that the IGP Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has ordered officers to accept all letters regardless if it is the old MITI letter or the new MITI letter.

“The head of police has decided and ordered police officers to accept all official authorisation letters and permits regardless if the letter came from MITI and other ministries or departments even though we have given employers a grace period of 3 days.”

As at the time of writing, no end date was given on when PDRM will stop accepting old permits.

The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
