Another video of the RFID toll lane before the Penang Bridge is going viral across social media, once again sparking another debate on the decision to phase out Touch ‘n Go (TnG) and Smart Tag lanes along the North-South Highway.
Last week, the Works Ministry announced that they will start phasing out TnG and Smart Tag lanes along the Juru-Skudai stretch of the Plus Highway starting 15-January-2022. This has sparked a hot debate amongst Malaysians on the feasibility of the decision.
It did not help that a TikTok user only just experienced an issue with the RFID lane a day before the announcement. Save to say that the Works Ministry definitely does not welcome this new video where an RFID user him/herself questioned the decision.
In the video, both RFID lanes were seen heavily congested while many cars tried to escape the jam by switching lanes to use the TnG lanes instead.
Though Plus has clarified that TnG and Smart Tag lanes will still be available for the time being, they did not answer the hot question on when it will be completely phased out. This new video has proven that like it or not, TnG and Smart Tag lanes are still needed.
So, this brings us back to the same question: Why are we doing this again?
There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
