The Volvo EC40 and EX40 have been launched in Thailand, both with a special Black Edition variant. Prices and variants are:

  • EC40 Ultra - Twin Motor: THB 2,790,000 (~RM 360k)
  • EC40 Ultra - Single Motor: THB 2,090,000 (~RM 270k)
  • EX40 Ultra - Twin Motor: THB 2,690,000 (~RM 347k)
  • EX40 Ultra - Single Motor: THB 1,990,000 (~RM 257k)

Black Edition

  • EC40 Ultra - Twin Motor Black Edition: THB 2,490,000 (~RM 322k)
  • EX40 Ultra - Twin Motor Black Edition: THB 2,390,000 (~RM 309k)

Just to refresh, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have been renamed EX40 and EC40 respectively, in line with the EX30. This naming update removes the "Recharge" badging from plug-in hybrid models, making it easier for consumers to differentiate between fully electric and hybrid vehicles.

For the Black Edition, both the EC40 and EX40 come with an exterior finished in Onyx Black Metallic, featuring high-gloss black grilles and Volvo badges. The vehicles also sport 20-inch high-gloss black alloy wheels, a sport steering wheel, and Charcoal Connect Suede Textile/Microtech interior upholstery. 

The Black Edition variants are priced lower as they do not include a bundled wallbox charger and have different warranty coverage compared to other variants. However, the Black Edition still offers a quality warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, along with 1 year of roadside assistance.

The Twin Motor variants of the EC40 and EX40 are powered by a lithium-ion nickel-rich NCM battery with a capacity of 82 kWh, allowing for maximum range of 650 km for EC40 and 645 km for EX40.

The front and rear motors deliver a combined power of 408 PS and 670 Nm. The EC40 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the EX40 takes 4.8 seconds. Both models have a governed top speed of 180 km/h.

There’s also the Single Motor rear-wheel-drive variants. These feature a 69 kWh battery and a 238 PS/420 Nm electric motor. The EC40 Single Motor variant offers a maximum range of 590 km, while the EX40 Single Motor variant offers a range of 565 km.

All variants support 11 kW AC charging. As for DC charging, the Single Motor variants are rated at up to 150 kW, while the Twin Motor variants goes up to 200 kW.

Inside, there’s a Clean Zone Air Quality System with a PM2.5 sensor, power-operated front seats with memory function and lumbar support, a fixed panoramic sunroof, and a power-operated hands-free tailgate, along with a wireless charger.

Entertainment features include a 9-inch touchscreen portrait display with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play, and Harman Kardon sound system with a 600-watt amplifier and 13 speakers, including air-ventilated woofer and subwoofer, as well as support for Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Standard safety features include City Safety with car, pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal detection and full auto brake, Collision Avoidance & Mitigation Support with auto brake for front, rear, and intersections, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross Traffic Alert with auto brake, Lane Keeping Aid (LKA), and Run-Off Road Protection.

Driver support features include Pilot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a 360-degree park assist camera, as well as Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control.
