Based on the numerous needs of customers, Volvo spent more than two years designing a new SUV and finally revealed the latest XC90 Armoured which provides a higher level of safeguard for drivers.

So how does the Armored Warrior be forged?

The design of the Volvo XC90 takes the T6 AWD variant for reference, which is manufactured at the Torslanda factory in Sweden. Volvo particularly designates Trasco Bremena, a German company, to elaborate the armour in higher protection levels. Through the joint, XC90 has 360-degree ballistic and explosive resistance, which is authorized by VPAM VR8. The steel armour is measured to be 10 millimetres thick and the glass can be up to alarming 50 millimetres! Nothing can approach this ever before.

It's worth mentioning that by adding about 1,400 kg from the armour, the total weight of XC90 reached an amazing 4,490kg (including five occupants). Considering the increase in weight, Volvo XC90 is equipped with a more advanced suspension and better brakes.

“We are proud to be able to offer these armoured cars. With our armoured cars, we can provide vehicles with a high level of personal security for individuals who require heightened protection.” Volvo Cars Special Vehicles marketing director, Stephan Green said.

And he mentioned: “The XC90 Armoured with VR8* protection rating (VPAM BRV 2009/ERV 2010) enables us to offer a car that provides a high level of protection while retaining the car’s fundamental properties. Potential customers include security services who would use the car to transport high-profile individuals.”

Green also added: “The armour is fitted discreetly to make the car barely distinguishable from a standard XC90. Every customer also has their own unique requirements, which we satisfy by means of customised production.”
