Volvo Cars is proud to introduce the Advanced Air Cleaner, the company’s latest air purification technology that will even provide occupants with live data of the outdoor pollen and air quality levels.
The new purification technology has been certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) as it is capable of removing up to 99.9 percent of grass, tree, and weed pollen allergens from incoming air.

Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) is an independent certification programme that helps consumers identify products that are suitable for people with asthma and allergies.
But other than helping keep allergens out of the car cabin, Volvo’s new purification system also allows occupants to assess whether to purify the air in the cabin of their car with the help of live data that shows actual outdoor pollen and air quality levels in the car’s centre display.
With the in-house developed app, this makes Volvo Cars the first car maker to provide live data of outdoor pollen levels to drivers.
The new purification technology will also come with a sensor that measures PM 2.5 levels inside the cabin and allows occupants to compare the data with the levels outside the car cabin.
Thanks to a synthetic fibre-based filter and ionisation in the Advanced Air Cleaner, up to 95 percent of all PM 2.5 particles are kept out of the car cabin.
Other than that, the system also removes more than 97 percent of airborne viruses that try to enter the cabin via the air filter and removes existing viral levels in the vehicle by up to 95 percent.
These aren’t just numbers quoted by Volvo, the results come from recent tests performed by the independent Austrian research and testing institute OFI.
The tests showed that the viral filtration efficiency of its filter and ioniser makes the technology highly effective against airborne viruses.
The Advanced Air Cleaner is available on of Volvo’s 90 and 60 series models produced from the second quarter of 2022.
