While Malaysia waits, Haval H6 PHEV with 330 PS/530 Nm gets previewed in Thailand 01

Making its global debut at the 2021 Thai Motor Expo in November, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Haval H6 was just recently given a preview to the Thai media. Local fans of the Chinese SUV brand might be familiar with the PHEV as it had been spotted around Malaysia in camouflage.

Despite showing itself here, it turns out that the H6 PHEV would be launched in the Kingdom first, perhaps as early as October 2022. It's pretty obvious since the H6 Hybrid has been leading the C-segment SUV market in Thailand almost ever since it was launched there.

Powering the H6 PHEV is the same turbocharged 1.5-litre engine seen in the H6 Hybrid and is paired with an electric motor that produces a combined system output of 330 PS/530 Nm.

The PHEV is juiced up via a 34-kWh ternary lithium battery with a maximum range of 201 km (NEDC Standard) and it is charged up via a CCS Type 2 charger that supports DC fast charging and conventional AC charging.

It takes approximately 35 minutes to charge up the H6 PHEV via DC fast charging from 0-80% while normal charging with AC power (0-100%) takes approximately 6 hours. Haval and GWM Thailand have not stated the maximum power output for these claimed charging times.

On the outside, the H6 PHEV differentiates itself from its hybrid twin with a larger Star Matrix front grille design but aside from that and the PHEV badge on the tailgate, the rest of the SUV remains unchanged.

Like any modern Chinese SUV, the H6 PHEVโ€™s interior is resplendent with screens galore with a 10.25-inch driver multi-information display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

H6 PHEV spotted in Malaysia

Back in Malaysia, GWM is now represented by Great Wall Motor Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd and is planning to launch a few models here soon including the Haval H6 which was spotted in camouflage in the underground parking lot of the brandโ€™s relaunch venue. Could this be a real (Chinese) challenger to the all-dominating Proton X70?
