So, the long-awaited 2020 Mazda 3 Turbo hot-hatch is finally launched in America and is apparently only available in left-hand drive (LHD) for now. Excuse me while I wipe away raging tears from my keyboard.
Mazda announced its arrival to American shores with a sleek launch film which features the first-generation Cosmo, 787B Le Mans car, and a Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo with some added aero kits.
The Mazda 3 Turbo is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged Skyactiv-G that produces up to 253 PS and 434 Nm depending on which grade of fuel is used. That’s higher than what we had written before.
The i-Activ all-wheel drive system and six-speed automatic come as standard but American buyers have an option to upgrade to a Premium Plus package. This package adds aero kits like a rear roof spoiler, front air dam, rear diffuser, and side sill extensions.
That’s all exciting until we receive news from our mates Down Under at Car Expert which confirms that the Mazda hot hatch is only going to be in LHD for now.
But let’s not feel completely disappointed with the news, we’d just have to hope that those of us who drive on the correct left side of the road will get this amazing sleeper hot hatch in the future. In the meantime, there's the regular Mazda 3 which is an already great car.
