The monopoly of Touch ‘n Go (TnG) on Malaysian toll payments is about to reach an end as the Works Ministry announced that 5 more highways in the country will be implementing an open payment system.

According to a Facebook post by Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the decision on allowing an open payment system on highways went through numerous discussions between the Development and Privatisation Division, the Works Ministry (KKR), and the concessionaires since 2022.
The open payment system is planned to begin operations in mid-September 2023 and will be implemented on one lane at the toll plaza. The minister also added that this system would eventually pave the way for a multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) toll system.
Furthermore, Nanta also revealed that the Sungai Besi Expressway has been selected as the location for the Proof of Concept (POC) of the MLFF system. This POC is planned to be implemented by end of October 2023. A second location of the POC will be announced by the minister in the near future.
The MLFF toll system is planned to be rolled out nationwide in phases by the third quarter of 2024.
