Second Hongqi model to debut in Japan soon
Hongqi is an upmarket Chinese marque by FAW
Two engine options, up to 337 PS and 445 Nm from a supercharged V6
Following the debut of the Hongqi H9 in Japan, First Auto Works (FAW), the parent company of Hongqi, will be launching the Hongqi HS7 next.
Photos of the Hongqi HS7 were published on Kuruma News, which mentioned that the HS7 will debut in Japan later this year. It could take up to 2 months for the HS7 to receive its vehicle type approval (VTA), indicating that a debut could happen within the second half of 2022.
With an overall length that spans well over the 5-meter mark, the Hongqi HS7 slots between the Mazda CX-8 and Mazda CX-9 in terms of overall length. Its 3-meter-long wheelbase also eclipses both Mazda SUVs, which offer a 2,930-mm long wheelbase.
As the name suggest, the Hongqi HS7 is able to sit 7 with relative ease. However, if more boot space is needed, Hongqi also offers the HS7 as a 5-seater model.
Being Hongqi’s flagship petrol-powered SUV, the HS7 is very well equipped, offering stuff like Alcantara upholstery, heated and ventilated seats (even for the rear seats), digital clusters, as well as a 14-speaker Bose sound system.
Hongqi offers either a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (252 PS, 380 Nm) or a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol (337 PS, 445 Nm). The unit shown here is powered by the latter, though Hongqi is expected to offer the smaller capacity 2.0-litre unit at a later date.
