Geely’s line-up in the Philippines consists of 3 SUV models but that didn’t really matter since the Chinese carmaker has seen consistent positive growth every year. Soon, there will be a new model added and it’ll be the Geely Emgrand.
The all-new Emgrand was launched in China back in June 2021 and will be the first Geely sedan sold in the Philippines since the Emgrand EC8 back in 2013.
Geely has come a long way in the Philippines since then and is one of the fastest-rising brands in the country, breaking the stigma that cars from the Middle Kingdom are awful.
2021 has been a very fruitful year for Geely in the Philippines with 6,104 vehicles sold, nearly three times more than in 2020. Impressive since the Chinese carmaker made its re-entry into the market in 2019.
Like its SUV siblings, we can expect the Filipino-spec Emgrand to feature impressive equipment at an affordable price. Geely Philippines has posted a few teaser videos on its social media channels ahead of its launch on 25-February 2022.
From one of the videos, we see that a fully-digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch GKUI-powered infotainment screen would be among the features.

The Emgrand shares the same platform with the Coolray/X50, Geely’s own B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA). Yet, its dimensions lean a lot closer to C-segment rivals like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
In China, the Emgrand is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 114 PS and 147 Nm. This is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. It’s likely that the Filipino-spec Emgrand would share the same engine.

Closer to home, we previously reported that the Emgrand would likely be introduced in Malaysia as a Proton in 2023 or 2024. Whether it will replace the ageing Persona or as the spiritual successor to the Preve remains under tight wraps for now.
Could the Emgrand prove to be yet another success for Geely in the Philippines? The best-selling car in the country in 2021 is the Toyota Vios with 35,095 units sold but the prospect of a Corolla-sized car for the price of a Vios might be enticing for some buyers.
