Continuing our coverage of the 2020 Guangzhou Autoshow, we're bringing you live photos of the 2021 Geely Xingyue!

This is a car many Malaysians are excited about - it's unique, looks the part, and being manufactured by Geely, many are hypothesising that it could be the next Proton model. 

That's still rather far-fetched as Geely has licenced only three models to Proton so far - the Boyue (Proton X70), Binyue (Proton X50) and one more touted to be based on the Jiaji MPV.

Geely says that the fastback, coupe-SUV shape is inspired by 'the streamlined silhouette of a jungle cat leaping towards its prey'. It does callback to the BMW X6 M in certain angles, looking all taut and squat.

The Xingyue (translated as 'leaping stars') is the first model to be based on Geely's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. 

Three variants are available in China, with three different powertrain options:

Yes - the range-topping 400T uses a three-cylinder engine. Haven't you heard? Three is the new four.

The Xingyue's interior is a classy affaird with familiar touches (the air-cond switches are similar as those in the X50). There's a digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running Geely Key User Interface (GKUI).

Sporty as it may be, the Xingyue still seats five on its leather seats. There's also rear-aircond vents!

Again, please temper your expectations about this becoming the next Proton model. The Jiaji MPV is more of what Proton needs. We've taken that out for a spin - read the review here, and watch what we think about it.
