New post: My Audi Q7 got into an accident? http://t.co/SBGz4ylY
I owned the original Tesla Roadster. Two seater, rear wheel drive, no fast DC charging network. Great car to drive, and a nightmare to recharge. Takes a lot of planning, as filling up a 56kWh battery off a 2kW outlet takes 24+ hours. As the charger is a single phase, it is always slow; the fastest outlet I could then get was 20Amps, 4.6 kW, and 12 hours charging. But the thrill of driving this is fabulous. I unfortunately had a bad car accident with it. An idiot coming the other way went over the center line; I swerved to avoid him and ended at the bottom of a 50meter deep ravine. My car was totaled, I walked out with four broken ribs and a couple bruises. Then I got Model X P100DL. Big wow. This is even faster than the Roadster, mine seats 6 (by choice). I can easily tow my trailer. There is plenty of room for luggage, and it’s extremely comfortable as well. Traction on snowy or icy roads is superior to any car I have ever driven, even Audi’s and Subaru. I have an Engel MT40 fridge in the middle to have cold drinks; the car can keep it running for almost a year before recharging. My Audi Q7 3.0TDI used 300€/month of Diesel, now the Model X uses 70€/month of electricity. Only caveat is that Model X is a big car by European standards, and our parking spaces in town are a tight fit. So I added a Model 3 Performance. Wow again. This little one is no half Tesla. It’s fast, it’s agile, it’s incredibly efficient, and it’s much easier to park in town. Huge trunk, small frunk. Very well thought out integration of the user interface in the car. The phone is my key, it works well. A key fob would only be useful when I want to open the frunk, otherwise it’s unnecessary. So I created a Siri shortcut, problem solved. This car uses 150Wh/km, or 250Wh/mile. That is the equivalent of 1.5 liters of gas per 100 km, or close to 130 miles per gallon. Really. Charging is also incredibly fast. I do not like Model S. I’ve driven many; it’s not for me. To each his own taste. I installed 24 solar panels and produce more electricity than my cars use. My energy is 100% renewable. I charge at home 95% of the time, no problem. What’s next? The new Roadster!
Go for Kodiaq. It has features which Q7 doesn't. You might miss a little power after you hit 150 KM/hr. But it can slowly take you to a maximum of 200 KM/hr. For city drives, it has enough power. For highways, it has enough safety. What else do you need in a family car? Cost wise, here is the breakup for Kodiaq: Cost of service is average Rs. 30,000 per year from 2nd year to 15th year. Cost of insurance is approx 1,20,000 per year. Let's assume cost of minor dent-paints, wear of parts such as tyres etc. to Rs. 12000 per year. (In some years it may be zero and in others it may be much more. So I took 12000 per year as an average for next 15 years.) This makes cost of maintenance to Rs. 1,62,000 per year. So, as per my estimates, cost of ownership will be your regular EMI + Rs. 13500 per month which includes everything except major accidents or breakdowns which are very rare in case of such well built & safety rigged car. But… if you have cash to burn, go for Q7. It will give you most of the features of Kodiaq, 20% extra power and ofcourse, the Audi logo. I have not mentioned the cost of ownership of Audi because I think someone who can spend 92 Lacs wouldn't bother fuel economy or cost of tyre replacement ;) Upvote if you find it useful :)
I’ve owned both. The Q7 is a disaster. I once had to take four kindergarteners on a field trip in it, and it took ,twenty minutes, to get the kids in and out of the third-row seats, since the second-row car seats had to be removed to get to the third row. Heaven forfend there’d been an accident. The Q7 is a German Chevy Suburban, powered by an overworked hamster, with a 22-speed sequential-shift gearbox and more hamsters constantly shifting it. Nearly 100% of the build cost of the car is invested in knob-knurling and upholstery. The first of the several times the half-assed electronics drained the battery dry, I wanted to check the manual to see if there was anything particularly baroque about the battery-jumping process. Since this is an Audi, and the answer to that question is “yes.” Unfortunately, the manual was in the glove-box. So I had to find one someone had scanned online, and read it on my phone, instead. Because, who would ever want to open the glove-box when the 12V system wasn’t working? By contrast, the Model X is a nice, modern car, not overly encrusted with knobs, and with ,two very comfortable ways of walking into the third-row seating,. Also, it’s really really fast. And it doesn’t leak oil onto the floor of your garage. Or anywhere else. And you don’t have to hang around gas stations. Or wait for it to shift gears all the time. I was ,very, very, happy to give the Q7 back when our X was delivered.
In the bestselling biography of Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance, the author mentions a McLaren F1 that Musk heavily damaged in an accident, but he normally refers to Musk driving a black Model S. There are other cars to report: from the flight of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy, we know he had a red Tesla Roadster that is now in orbit around the sun. At other times, he is reported to have owned a very old BMW and a very recent BMW M5; a Jaguar XK-E; a Lotus Esprit used in a James Bond film; an Audi Q7; and a Porsche 911.
It’s less safe: Compared to what exactly? Baleno got a 3 star NCAP rating for the euro variant which gets just a couple extra airbags. The structural integrity was decent, though not great. All this negative hype about Baleno was started by people just spamming all social media with photos of Balenos that met with accidents. But matter of the fact is that you can find such photos of LITERALLY any car if you search for it on Google. Those images are highly misleading. You do realise that Baleno sells like hot cakes, and the Govt of India has approved this vehicle for street use! The Mahindra scorpio is just as unsafe, but Mahindra hasn’t banned it. Mind you, the ,Ford Mustang ,got just a 2 star rating in Euro NCAP testing. Is Ford going to discontinue it? Hell no. Bottom line: Stop trusting whatsapp and facebook forwards showing photos of crashed balenos. I’ll show you some photos of crashed exotic cars: Porsche Carrera GT: Volvo XC 90: Mercedes Benz CLA: Audi Q7 (Yes, that mammoth of a vehicle): And people’s favourite “example” to demonstrate safety, the Tata Nexon:
No car can be termed as the safest car, not even the Audi Q7, BMW 7 series or a Mercedes S class for that matter. ABS and Air bags can provide protection up to some extent but they do no guarantee safety of your life after a particularly bad accident. I have seen many high end car owners driving rashly on the road, they think that their car has all the safety gadgets which makes them invincible, but I am sorry to say that this perception not only put their lives on stake but also the lives of others who are traveling along them. Here are some examples of high end wrecked up cars after their fatal accident Porsche Bentley BMW Lamborghini And their are a plenty of other examples which can prove that their are no indestructible car in this world no matter how much you are willing to pay. Though, I am happy to see you looking out for a car which can offer decent safety features within the 10 lakh price range, otherwise I have seen numerous people looking for bling-bling features or fuel efficiency when it comes to buying a car. I would recommend to go with any of the following cars in this price range. Volkswagen Vento: Fiat Linea Hyundai Verna Honda City: Ford Fiesta: Ford Ecosport: Again I would emphasize on the fact that no car is safest in the world, you can keep yourself safe by keeping following points in consideration. Always wear seatbelt,, this one is most basic tip but people tend to ignore it for the reason best known to them. Seat belts can save your life in case of an accident, the airbags are known as SRS (Supplementary Restrain System) whereas the seat belts are known as PRS (Primary Restrain System) Drive sedately,: No matter what car you driving, always drive at a sedate speed. With rash driving you can only save few minutes but with sedate driving you can save your life Follow traffic rules: ,We Indians have a tendency of breaking the rules no matter how life saving they are. We love to jump the read lights and tend to lose patience in traffic Vehicle Maintenance,: Make sure to get your vehicle serviced timely, this way your car won’t leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Also, change your tires after a decent interval, don’t wait for all the tire threads to worn out. Avoid road rages: ,There is no point in indulging road rages, there are millions of morons out there and you cannot fight with each one of them. Keep your ego aside while driving, and don’t put your life in danger just to teach some idiot a lesson. Even if you get an urge to expel your anger then just remember your loved ones and remind yourself that they are waiting for you at home. All the best for your purchase. Drive safe.
This may be a different practice in different places. Atleast in India they do it all the time. In most of the road accidents (though not all), they mention the manufacturer and sometimes even the model of the vehicle involved. In some other cases they may even mention the registration number of the vehicle or click pictures in such a way that the number plates are visible. Here are a few screenshots from the websites of some of the leading newspapers: 1. The Hindu (Audi Q7) 2. Times of India (Audi) 3. The Hindu (BMW) This was a random Google search. And this is not specifically for high end cars. The same happens with budget cars as well, though the brand name may not be a part of the headline but most probably you will find it in the details.
