I believe in German engineering and Japanese reliability. I already bought my FJ Cruiser. Someone needs to roll in with the Audi Q8 now and complete my love language. 🤧
My generation doesn't believe in love and loyalty but I do and that hurts
It’s hard to say, because they both are recently released models that haven’t had a long reputation. The Audi Q8 was Audi’s response to the Mercedes GLE coupe and BMW X6, whereas the Range Rover Velar… my best guess tells me it’s meant to rival against the Audi Q7 and BMW X5. So already I would conclude the Range Rover Velar beats the Q8 in terms of space and practicality. But the Q8 beats the Range Rover Velar in terms of aesthetics, design and technology.
I owned an F-Pace, which I loved to drive but it was stupidly unreliable. I replaced it with an Audi Q8 - not quite as good to drive, but much more reliable
Two new Audi SUVs are getting a lot of press lately. One is a reliable standby, and the other is one of the Audi brand’s latest additions. Because they’re similar in size, comparisons are inescapable. So how, exactly, do the 2019 Audi Q7 and the all-new 2019 Audi Q8 compare to one another? Here’s our take on the new fraternal twins at Audi Valencia. Let’s start with what’s similar. The two SUVs are very close in size, though the Audi Q8 is just slightly larger than the 2019 Audi Q7. That size difference helps to offset a key structural difference between the two: the Audi Q8 features a sloping, coupe-like roof. That’s also the reason the larger SUV only features seating for five — very ample and spacious seating, mind you — versus the third-row seating available in the somewhat smaller Audi Q7. Powertrain options are another key difference. Both SUVs share the same eight-speed Tiptronic engine and standard Quattro AWD, but things diverge from there. The Audi Q7 features a choice of engines, one a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 252 horsepower, and the other a 333 horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. The latter engine makes a repeat appearance in the Audi Q8 but in a higher state of tune (335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque). Things are more evenly matched on the technology front. Speak to your Audi dealer serving Bakersfield for more details on safety features, infotainment systems, apps, and a plethora of other standard and optional tech. Better still, just visit Audi Valencia at 23923 Creekside Rd for a test drive. The bottom line? If you can take the small hit in cargo volume and seating space, the Audi Q8 offers a level of indulgent luxury we think you’ll love. If, on the other hand, you really need the seating or a slight bump in cargo space with the third-row seats down, the Audi Q7 wins by a nose. You really can’t go wrong either way. Check them both out at Audi Valencia today to see which one suits your fancy.
Neither car gets high reliability or costs of ownership marks from Consumer Reports. But Porsche has a higher class of service from the dealers when they go in for service or repairs. I suppose it makes you feel better about dropping thousands of dollars for repairs which is normal
I’m a domestic vehicle fan of years, Escalades, Suburbans and Navigators, I like my big SUVs. Recently traded in a 2019 Lincoln Navigator L Reserve for a new 2021 Range Rover LWB Autobiography (I usually trade every 2 years), I had a 2021 Escalade on order but the order has been delayed due to part shortages. Straight up vs the lincoln: Interior: I felt domestic luxury was amazing till I got inside this thing, everything is leather/wood, not all plastic, example, navigator leather felt cheap, the dash was rubber etc, the RR, all leather. There’s details that just simply can’t be touched, it is a superior product. Exterior: I mean I liked the look of the navigator on the outside, had other comments many times it was a sharp vehicle, people would look and compliment, but the RR there’s something else, people assuming someone rich or famous is driving it lol. Power: The navigator had ample power, was peppy and was fun to drive, but the v8 p525 is something else, the driving dynamics is just absolutely pristine, this SUV is “fun” and comfortable to drive, I tested a west-minister first and the performance/dynamics are no different than my AB, so mechanically not much changes so the guts are the same. Tech: It was on-par or slightly better with more cool gadgetry than my navigator, but there’s better tech, also own a Audi Q8 and the tech in that thing is insanely amazing and nothing can touch it, the 2021 Escalade id say has better tech. Reliability: I’m less than 400 miles in so I can’t comment though I’m waiting. Big things, FUN factor to drive, the vehicle also caters to passengers, especially in the back, the driving dynamics totally blew my navigator out of the water. Update: So Land Rover has a lot of complaints about “reliability”, I know people that own or have owned them, what I’ve come to realize or notice is that RR owners are Type A personalities, they complain or bring up everything, in life or everything they own, I feel RRs suffer this as their market would be type a or wealthy people. Owning a Lincoln Navigator, I had issues, but I never complained, other navi owners I knew also had the same issues and we didn’t care, none of us reported our issues on the JD Power surveys, now a fellow LT RR owner I know complained of a squeak that was actually from something he put in the back seat compartment, even though its not the vehicles fault he constantly complained about it.
Well that depends completely upon your choice! While both combine comfort and performance in a great balanced way bt BMW is a bit on the sportier side…especially the 3 Series! But If you go on the premium end Audi A8 is at par with S Class and Audi Q8 is equivalent to Lambo Urus at a much lesser price! Now when u are concerned about reliability, one can easily see some really old BMWs on the road bt Audi u will find somewhat less! While I neither own an Audi or a BMW I own 3 Skodas (Yeti~Q3, Octavia~A3 and Superb~A4) and I have a Volvo which is 8years old now and the Yeti is 10 and has run 3.7 lakh KMs which is a lot on Indian Roads. But I have to mention its a little bit expensive to maintain these cars! But If you want sheer reliability, without a second look go for a Toyota or a Lexus! I have Fortuner (Somewhat Indian version of HILUX) and its 11years now and its still runs and will run a few year more! So…as I said it depends upon what you expecting from the vehicle! For any other queries do ask me!
Potential for poor long term reliability and cost of ownership set aside, I’d buy an Audi Q8, or Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I love Audi design, and they’re nice cars, but older Audi is known to have issues. Same thing with the cayenne. I have always liked the cayenne and the performance aspect of the turbo, but the cayenne is either really good, or a lemon.
These German rivals have been fighting for quite a long time. A brand doesn't just evolve around a few marketplaces or in technology. It matters on every single aspect such as Technology, Reliability, Performance, Styling, Service, etc. Both Mercedes-Benz and Audi have been performing considerably good nowadays. In fact, Mercedes-Benz has been the oldest car brand and has roots with the great inventor Karl Benz. While on the other hand, Audi has been growing and now is considered by many potential younger generation customers (especially younger customers). See these pictures, The technology and orientation of the dash makes it very attractive. The over all interiors of the Audi cars are extremely appealing to the eye. And quite preferred by the younger generation. The Quattro by Audi gives great performance perks to the car as it enhances their overall driving performance and several technological updates. While, the Mercedes-Benz cars are quite preferred by middle aged customers who want their cars to be elegant and simple yet loaded with amazing tech in an opulent way. Their cars also look extremely classy and never age. They tend to look intact even after several decades. How many people love the 300SL? A quite lot. You know, The Mercedes-Benz has several high profile customers who have specific needs to be fulfilled. Audi became very popular with their performance sports car the AUDI R8. Back launched in 2006 worldwide and delivered since 2008, this is their masterpiece. Mercedes-Benz also produces several cars purely based on specific performance needs such as, SLS AMG Based on their legendary 300SL, Back in 60s and 70s. Their SUV range especially the G CLASS SUVS, G550 6×6 G55 AMG SUV Audi Q7 and Audi Q8, The Mercedes-Benz is an organization which has roots to the invention of cars. It has a great legacy and heritage in the sector. Mercedes-Benz doesn't just produce cars, It also produces commercial vehicles such as Trucks, Buses, Vans, etc. Mercedes-Benz commercial lineup, So, let's conclude it as Mercedes-Benz, a brand with history and heritage and still growing powerful. Audi, a brand growing and satisfying its customers with sleek and tech savvy approach. Let's see who's gonna rival against others. My personal choice is Mercedes-Benz anytime.
GLS for the space and Porsche for the drive. GLS is a big fancy truck. You buy it because you want to haul stuff and people and you want it to be comfortable. It’s not a sporty drive but that’s not the point of the car. Also it has that Mercedes badge the Porsche is a sportier drive, seats 5 instead of the GLS’s 7 but it’s more practical for normal use case. Not too big, have a road presence but nimble enough at the corners. as for off road capabilities, I would say the GLS is the most capable since it was meant to replace the superstar G-class, Porsche comes it at second but the Q8 is basically a show boat. But let’s be honest, the car will not go off road for the life of the vehicle. I’ve actually looked at these 3 SUV to replace my 10-year old family car as the kids are getting bigger and going around for trips takes too much stuff. So far in my research the best for me is the Porsche. The Mercedes cones in 2nd only because the Porsche is a so much a better drive and based on reports it much more reliable than the other two. Edit Despite the Cayenne and the Q8 share the same platform from VW, each of the company that uses this platform (which includes Bentley, Lamborghini, Audi, VW and Porsche) develop their final product independently. So while there is significant VW parts in each of the cars, the final setup, is each of their own.
There are various similarities and dissimilarities in the two German powerhouses! They are neck to neck in most of the common comparisons, but there are areas where one exceeds the other. In recent years Audi’s focus has been reliability, technology and less diversified product line than the BMW. Audi is now ranked above Lexus in reliability (JD Power, 2016), its technology is class leading only behind Tesla, with innovations like traffic congestion assist, infrared night vision with pedestrian, object and road sign detection and Audi pre-sense. Moreover, Audi has limited product set, which are easily identifiable and remembered like A3–8, Q3/5/7, Some R and S models, they have plans to add more like A2, Q2, Q8 etc, lets hope they don’t flood it. BMW’s focus has always been performance and faster cars, the X5M is the fastest luxury SUV it even beats the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S in 0–60 times, even when the Porsche is priced twice. They lead all other makes in cc:hp ratio, producing 567hp from a 4.4 Litre V8 with 553 nm troque. In recent years they have gone into variety mode, they’re all over the place with new models and product lines, sometime there sales people get confused as to which model to discuss. Now they have 1–7 Series, plus X1, X3–6, M Series, Z-Series and i-Series, can you name a model from each series? Audi’s were always smoother and had a better drive experience, BMW’s are faster and more capable, Audi break-down stories are less common than the BMW’s, it was a big factor not so long ago that BMW had to come with free maintenance for all its models to sustain the market share. In fact BMW’s took a cue from Audi in recent years to improve their infotainment systems and on-board technology. BMW’s forte is SUV segment, Audi stands no where when its comes to the SUV world (or SAV as BMW calls it). Audi Q’s are more utility and daily drivers than performance. BMW sucks in X1/X3 but then X5/X6 are too good for an Audi. The power and performance is limited to a supercharged v6 in Q7 (333hp/325T) and a further tuned v6 in SQ5 (354/347). On the other hand BMW has V8 and M-models to cater to almost any segment of SUV’s. The BMW further leads in the performance segment with the variety of M-Series offerings, they have models from each product line with M-performance making it available for larger segment of customers. Audi too has the S series and R series with comparable specification though not as spread, but still can’t beat BMW in 0–60 times which are prime aspects of performance. Overall, these two makes are neck to neck in competition. Both have competing models in each segment, except SUV’s and Electric vehicles which only BMW has and the Audi RX-8 sports car. There are clear trade offs between the two, better driving experience and reliability of Audi against the better performance and faster BMW. Though these differences are not that huge to let one down against the other, even the prices are pretty much the same for competing models in each segment. In the end it comes to choice of the customer and the feature important to them, hope it helps!
