What is it like living with the Tesla Model X?

As someone who is not very big on self-indulgence, I am embarrassed at how much I enjoy using my Model X every day. That’s not to say it is perfect (there are plenty of quirks for a naysayer to point out)… or that I didn't paid a lot for a “luxury vehicle” that doesn’t have a very luxurious interior. Driving I’m not a car enthusiast, but having ,instant torque at low speeds, is enjoyable to anyone I think. I agree the steering feels extremely “damp/dead” but I’m ok with that. The Model X’s ,large weight is noticeable, in corners and emergency stops - but not scarily so. Visibility via rear view mirror is not good, but made up by the rear view camera and large mirrors such that you can literally have ,no blindspots, (i.e. a car will always be either visible in your side mirrors or your rearview mirror). I still turn my head out of habit when changing lanes, but I don’t think I technically need to do that anymore. The ,brake auto hold, is really nice for relaxing your leg at traffic lights. Fueling My Subaru Legacy averaged a poor 20/25 mpg (with a roofbox it near got above 22 mpg in reality). After driving that car 140,000 miles. I probably used about 6700 galloons of premium gas which at the time costs about $3.50/gal (California gas is more expensive). That’s $23000 USD in fuel. Now I get free charging at Supercharger stations and at my office. Even if I didn’t I pay $0.11 kwh. So that 140,000 miles of driving would have costed me around $6000 (I get around 375 kwh/mi efficiency) for a ,savings of around $17,000 ,(this is not to say a Model X is cheap, just that it will be less exorbitantly expensive over time… and the Model 3 should actually be pretty good overall). Also for the next 6 months… you are still going to get $7500 federal tax credit (and in California another $2500 credit) for an addition $10000 off. Combined with no oil changes, ~50% the number of brake changes, and no transmission/timing belt repairs - maintenance is less (although somewhat neutralized by the higher insurance and registration fees). Now it does take longer to charge your car than to fill it up… but the majority of time my car is has a full tank at the start of the day as so I never need to “stop for gas” the majority of the year versus the ~50 stops/year to the gas station I made with my ICE car. Say your average gas stop takes 3 minutes… that’s 150 mins - 2.5 hours of time at the gas station. I will easily trade that for having to wait 45 mins every 3 hours on a long car drive (something I would probably want to do anyways since I have kids and am getting older and can’t do the 8 hour non-stop drive anymore). Doors The Falcon wing doors are extremely functional (although the sliding doors on a minivan would have worked just as well). They have very ,good side clearance, - when there is a car close by on the sides, it is often easier to get out of the the rear doors than the front doors (here is a quick video I made demonstrating this - ,New video by Arvin Chang,). There is the occasional the hiccup (they are afraid to open towards low hanging tree branches. They have refused to open completely despite nothing being in the way two times in the last 11 months, although not in the last 6 months so maybe it was a OTA fix). Being able to remotely open/close them is really nice with your have an armful of stuff (or kids) - you can actually remotely close ALL doors and trunk with a single button press (again nice if you ferrying kids/pets into the house). The ,automatic autolocking/unlocking, is very convenient. Since I have kids I didn’t opt for the automatically opening driver side door (it opens automatically as you approach the car). I still like the fact that the driver side door automatically closes when you push your foot on the brake pedal (saving you the effort of leaning out to pull it in). Again because of kids, I don’t have the ,easy entry/exit mode enabled ,which move the seats out of your way for you. Driver profiles, are really nice when switching between my wife and I (automatically uses your personal preferences for driver seat position, steering/acceleration/braking settings, ,and even radio stations and temperature settings,). It can be tied to each of your two keys, so the car automatically switches as you approach it. Interior I was skeptical of the panorama windshield,, but now I immediately miss it whenever I’m in a different car. It feels like being an idealized spaceship/submarine/sci-fi vehicle (where as in reality the windows on the shuttle/undersea vehicle/etc as actually quite small to make them more resistant to damage. Despite the large glass… the stock UV/IR tinting prevents my black leather seats from getting searingly hot (,I could get into my car in 105 degree summer weather in short without discomfort,). Add to this the ability to ,remotely/automatically engage the AC/Heating, before entering the vehicle (the Model X has a ton of AC vent fore/mid/after… chilling the car extremely quickly) makes the car temperate extremely comfortable. Quality-wise the interior materials are not particularly great, not cheap… but not to the standards of a traditional luxury car, like a Audi or Mercedes despite being vastly more expensive than comparably sized models. I don’t live the feel of the vegan leather (I prefer the slippery perforated leather on my other Subaru Legacy), but it is a minor annoyance for me personally (although I could definitely see other people disliking it). Finally, the ,foldable third row, is the perfect thing for me. With three kids riding regularly and the grandparents visiting sporadically, the ability to quickly switch from seating 5 to 7 (without paying the external space penalty all the time) is really nice in my mind. Storage There is a TON of cargo capacity with the Model X. You do lose up the ability for a roofbox, but the latest Model X allows you to fold down the seats so you can stick in skis/snowboards while still seating 5 people. The frunk is really useful for stuff you always want to be able to get to even if the trunk is overloaded with gear (versus trying to dig it out from under something). Side Notes Navigation kind of sucks (I use Google Maps when I really want good direction). Computer Vision wipers are not particularly effective imo. I don’t think they are close to self-driving (esp. compared to Google/Waymo) as the car is kind of bad at figuring out “cars” and “lanes’ in front of it. It will freak out when you are approaching a curve with a car parked on the side of the road. It will also be really confused if you are in a left turn lane (it can’t figure out the lanes in front of it and the dashboard display will jump around a lot).

Volkswagen First thing first, the word ,Volkswagen, is pronounced "Folks-Vagen" by replacing V with F in the word. So, if you were pronouncing it as Volkswagen then probably you were doing it wrong. This is because the German "V" is pronounced as the English "F," and the "W" is pronounced as the English "V." The Volkswagen group owns car brand such as ,Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, CEAT, Skoda. ,They also sell motorcycles under the brand name ,Ducati ,making themselves the largest auto-mobile makers in the world. With the launch of the new Hyundai Creta 2020, will the Creta be able to gain back its top spot in the compact SUV segment that it lost to Kia Seltos in 2019?

By the time you see this answer, it’ll show you that it was edited and that’s true because the previous answer was a bit more through emotion than by analysis. That’s the reason I’m editing this post and rewriting it again. So, without wasting much time, let us directly jump into the question. Can Hyundai Creta regain its position as a top seller in the C-segment space? Well! The answer is seeming to be yes and there are some strong reasons for that. Before jumping onto the reasons, let us just take a small peek into what has happened till now. Kia after launching Seltos hasn’t updated the features properly when the Creta was launched and adding a sunroof to the lower variants, emergency brake assist feature and all are not that impactful because Hyundai has observed the market and released what lacks in Kia Seltos and is trying to make cash out of it. Among them, 1. Panoramic sunroof 2. Paddle shifters for the petrol variants 3. Nice looking interiors( doesn’t mean kia’s are bad but the one in Creta feels more airy is what I intend to say) 4. The Button design for the ventilated seats, air craft style gear lever, audi like steering wheel and all makes us think like we’re in some luxury vehicle which is kind of mimicking the experience. 5. Features like rear seat cushions for the headrests, electronic parking brake, auto hold and all make things effortless and makes driving more easier as well. Design is a radical thing which I don’t want to talk about as it varies from person to person but apart from that, what Hyundai has done cleverly is the marketing and pricing. Top end diesel manual SX(O) will cost you at around 18.8Lakhs on road while the Kia Seltos HTX+ also falls nearly the same price range but doesn’t bring the same features list and instead it misses out on many features which led customers swing from Kia to Hyundai. Top end diesel GTLine is there with all the bells and whistles for Kia Seltos but if they could release the similar kind of version in manual by reducing the price means, more customer will gravitate towards Seltos and by now, I think Kia would’ve understood that but let us see what they’re going to do in future about it. This is one reason and the another is that the ride quality in Kia Seltos is stiffer compared to Hyundai Creta which is on the softer side and takes the bumps and potholes better compared to Seltos and this particular aspect is what makes Hyundai reach more to family customers who prefer to be comfortable even when they’re on bad roads with patches and all. So, these are some reasons why Hyundai might overtake Kia Seltos in some aspects. But, if Kia has made all these changes in Seltos like adding electronic parking brake, auto hold, softer ride and all means, it’d have captured more market in this space and let us be optimistic on expecting all these changes atleast with its facelift. As the post came to an end, what I want to say is that Kia Seltos isn’t gonna loose market but Hyundai is sure to get some good sales when compared to Seltos as its focussed towards comfort centric customers while the Seltos is driving focussed. Its kind of a tie but depending upon their adaptability, we can expect some ups and downs in their sales figures but as of now both of these SUVs are competing very rapidly and as the time passes, we can get some clear picture about them. Thank you for reading and if you like this post, then don’t forget to upvote.

What pros and cons does your car have?

My car is a 2001 Audi A8L If you aren’t familiar with that car, allow me to explain. In the early 90s, Audi needed a successor to its popular ‘V8’ model. What they came up with was an all aluminum, 290 horsepower first class spaceship. The big Audi came with a brand new look, a better engine and gearbox, and luxury features to put it in the ranks of BMW or Mercedes. Dual zone climate control, wood and leather finishes, a Bose stereo, and heated seats were all fitted to the new car: it was one hell of an upgrade. Now on to my specific car . . . Pros Keyless entry and boot release Comfort - the seats are amazingly comfortable for the cars age Sound - the Bose system sounds incredible, even at high volume Power - It wants to get up and go when you put your foot down, maybe not as snappy as it was off the factory floor, but still… Heated everything - front seats, back seats, mirrors, steering wheel…the lot. It’s really nice! Comfortable suspension Safety features - airbags, everywhere. All wheel drive - the legendary Quattro system combined with good tires makes this car a beast in the snow. It is super nice to drive through stuff FWD cars could only dream of getting through Powered locks, mirrors, and seats(even the back ones) Automatic windows all the way around Dual zone climate control and automatic aircon Advanced onboard computer functions (MPG, Range, time to service, etc) Sensors letting you know if anything is amiss - even on the brake pads ABS brakes and stability programing (this was a big deal back then) Minnamal noise leakage into the cabin, from both the engine and the road The feel. ,The car, on paper, doesn’t seem extraordinary. But it feels brilliant. There’s something about the weight of the doors, it’s hulking presence, and it’s big seats. It just makes you feel good driving it. You get every sense that you’re driving something that was rebuilt from the ground up into the amazing car it is. Now the cons Years of age really do show Gas - it sucks putting gas in. The 4.2L V8 isn’t conservative in its consumption, I average about 17MPG Various components have worn out with time - the rear sunshade, the passenger electric headrest, the maxidot clock is starting to fade It’s a behemoth to park and maneuver in tight spaces The turning radius is dismal. The soft suspension leaves much to be desired in the bends…then again it wasn’t really built for cornering anyways It’s expensive to fix, almost prohibitively so The mileage is pretty high - 160k (random little things need replacement) It’s hard to work on - of all the service on the car I’ve done half of it. Special tools, two or three days, multiple trips to the auto parts store and curse words are all part of the servicing experience. There’s one damn cup holder. In the entire car. It’s great for me and my morning coffee but it kinda sucks that people riding with me have to hold their drink :( So there ya have it. The pros and cons. As I said in the ‘pros’ list though, the feel of the car and the amount of work I put into it is really what’s keeping it in my possession. Should I sell it? Yes. Absolutely. Financially, it’s just a big, dumb thing that gradually consumes more money as it ages. But I don’t care. Its special to me and that’s my weakness! Cheers

How are Oppo and Vivo ruining India?

I would say they are fools. Do you know about Volkswagen group owning eight car brands like: Audi Bugatti Porsche Bentley Lamborghini Volkswagen commercial vehicle Seat Skoda auto Image below shows the volkswagen group brands Volkswagen group does not end here, it is working in other fields also. Similarly brands like Oppo and Vivo want to kill the competition in the market and want only their hold in Selfie Camera Mobiles market. Chinese brands like ,Xiaomi, Oppo ,and ,Vivo, are the best case studies in contrast to India’s smartphone market. While Xiaomi has grown exponentially in terms of market share in the past one year, the other two have largely stagnated. Both ,Vivo and Oppo, are promoting the selfie camera feature aggressively through advertising and high-profile sponsorships. But the biggest glitch in their marketing is that, the market itself has moved away from selfie cameras to other features. Xiaomi today has a market share of 23.5% while Vivo and Oppo falls under 7–10%. Brand strategy: Xiaomi makes the right calls, Oppo and Vivo see a lull The kind of features what Xiaomi provides in the price band of Rs 8,000-10,000 are also interesting, resulting in steady growth. I heard that the store owners pursue the customers to buy Oppo/Vivo phones because the brands give them profits upto 20% per handset. Therefore it is a high time when both Oppo and Vivo must realise that they have to start spending money on their products rather than spending tons of money in advertising and marketing. They are not like well established Volkswagen group and even if Volkswagen group is a established group their product quality is superb. Same goes with Apple and Xiaomi. Simply marketing and advertising won’t help. Stop fooling your customers.

What does Volkswagen do really well?

Volkswagen is arguably the most powerful auto manufacturing conglomerate in the world. The Volkswagen Group consists of Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche, Skoda, SEAT, Bentley, Bugatti and Ducati. Volkswagen holds the largest market share in Europe’s auto industry and has been for over two decades. The VW AG is ranked seventh in the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies. Their success with the Beetle put them on the international map. During WWII, VW AG worked closely with the Nazi party, something VW is not proud of, but you can’t change history… Volkswagens is to Germany what Toyota is to Japan. When VW AG bought Lamborghini, they greatly improved the R&D budgets as well the quality of the product. If you take apart a Porsche, Lamborghini or Audi, many of the components including infotainment and engine parts can be found on cars like the VW Passat or Touareg. Yes, in the media, the emissions scandal is all their known for. If you see that as the only answer on the other replies, you know the repliers did not do their homework.

Which one is better: Audi or BMW?

It would be unfair comparing two automobile giants straight away by their names. Both BMW and Audi the German automobile companies have impressed their specific target segment throughout the globe and have won many international auto awards. Now let’s compare each vehicle type available in India ,SUV, BMW have X1, X3, X5 and X6 in the SUV segment out of which BMW X6 is the latest and best among these and Audi have Q3, Q5 and Q7 out of which Q7 outstands the rest. Audi Q7 4.2 have engine of 4134cc and have starting price of Rs.70 lakhs whereas BMW X6 50i have engine of 4395 cc and have starting price of 90 lakhs. Audi scores high as compared to BMW in field of safety. Whereas in mileage both the manufacturers score equal with an average mileage of 11kmpl. Audi Q7 sports a monster look which makes it look like a hunk whereas the BMW have more subtle design. Audi is more spacious as compared to BMW and concluding on this segment Audi has the upper hand ,Sedan., Sedan has been the need of the executive class people and has been the most luxury vehicle of all time. BMW has 3, 5, 7 series cars and Audi haveA4, A6, A7 and A8. Out of these I have selected BMW 750 from 7 series and Audi A8 because both of them are the most powerful in this particular segment. BMW 7series 750 is super security vehicle and have a powerful engine of 4395cc and the selected Audi counterpart A8 have a 4163 cc engine. The latest BMW 7 series 760 has a more powerful engine of 5972 cc and the latest variant of A8 comes with an extra powerful engine of 6300 cc but still BMW engine generates more power. Audi have a setback in looks when we see BMW parked just next to it. Otherwise but of them have good aerodynamic design. When luxury is the judging feature the ball is on the BMW court.BMW also offers a better mileage then off Audi. In this section of luxury sedan BMW is more demanding and value for money. ,Others, BMW Z4 is the best convertible of BMW and is also the most sophisticated convertible from all German car makers AUDI do not have any convertible which matches the class of BMW Z4. It has an engine of 2979cc and is also a roadster. On road it is best termed as your style statement and also the automated removal roof which can be added to your feature list it is true value for money basic model starting at 69 lakhs. The counterpart Audi has Audi R8 in its Sports segment and BMW have no competition for this segment Audi R8 has an mighty engine of 5920 cc its ultra-spacious another feature which most Audi car offers. It has a superb road control and its Aerodynamics make it like a gliding bird on the road. Audi R8 is rated among one the best engine in industry and this makes Audi sportier than BMW. Although Audi R8 starts from 1.8crore it is still one the most desired sports car which gives value for your cash. Although it makes a hole in your bank account.
