I’m going to say ,Ja’Whaun Bentley,, “,The Bull Bar,” — to me is the Most Fun player to Watch for the Patriots this Year. “,Oldtimers,’” Linebackers show that they can Still Play in the Game Today. Not a guy who draws a ,huge, ,crowd,, but he’s making a name for himself; he’s delivered a couple of “,bogeys,”. He’s a good “,enforcer,”, you want that kind of, physical presence, on, your ,defense,. He’s picking-up his game, he’s one ’em Oldies type linebackers. He’s got a lot of ,mean,-,edge, in him. He’s a Good Kid, his family had been homeless s since his freshman year of high school This guy just doesn’t steal your ,wallet ,he steals the ,whole, ,trailer park ,with you. He’s a ,BEAST ,in the Running-Game too. He can ,forklift, Offensive-Linemen. And he made a play actually, where he threw a guy off 5-yards. I mean he, slashed ,the guy to the opposite side of the field. That’s the ,receiver ,he’s covering. Keep in mid: he is ,covering, a “,receiver,”. He stops and, Bentley ,goes after him. Gets him by the ,waist,. And throws him down five-yards, back,!! I’ll show it again. He’s, inside ,the ,20,. And he throws him backwards,!!! But he can stop the run real good too. He, smells, it. Another example of good instincts, sensing the linemen ,closing ,down the field. Good stance, good base, shoulders hunched down with the hands in-front on the legs so that you can, move, ,side,-,line ,to, side,-,line,. Shows that he has Great Technique. See how he does it? Always put your head ,on,-,the,-,side, between the numbers,, then, grab ,him, and ,squeeze,. That’s, ,called, ,tackling,. Keep your ,Head,-,Up,, ,stick, your ,hands, ,in,-,front, ,of ,you, and ,stay, low,. Stay, square, and stick your nose ,in,-,between ,the numbers. That’s a good Ball Player right there. Boy, he decapitated ,both, the lineman ,and, the running-back. Make sure you’re 13-yards deep enough ,away, Deshaun, this just, kills ,me. So the three-guys ,involved, on the play, are: #51,, ,Bentley,. #73,, ,Fulton,. #26,, ,Miller,. Fulton, comes around on that Sickle. Oh My Gosh,, ,he DELCEATS him,. He shellacked him like a cardboard,. If he keeps it going like this, he’s going to be a ,Star ,someday. If I’m the ,Buccaneers,, I’m, trading, for him.
Well since Winston was only interested in abusing women and shoplifting crab legs, I’d say Brady’s statistics will greatly depend on the quality of the receivers
I’m writing this answer deep into the 2021 season as a reference so that we know exactly when I was writing this answer. Given that I’m a bit late to the party with this question, as well as the fact that things change in the NFL so much over the years, I feel it’s important that this is properly dated as the Thursday going into Week 15 when the Patriots were coming off their bye (after beating the Bills in that crazy windy game where they only threw three passes) and are going into the game up against the Colts. To start, the Patriots right now are a ,really ,damn good team. Their special teams has been excellent, the offense has been solid, and while the defense isn’t quite like the 2019 unit that through midseason would have had a winning record even if all offensive points were removed from consideration, it’s still the best defense in the NFL and firmly back to it’s Boogeyman form. I mean… Where do we begin with this team? I guess we’ll have to talk about the ,entire ,team really since there’s not a lot of weaknesses on this roster, which means we’ll start with the secondary. Hey look! A reach for a defensive back in the second round that’s actually panned out! The Patriots going into this season had their long time stalwart at strong safety retire, lost a solid starting caliber cornerback in Jason McCourty (who doubles as the twin brother of their free safety), lost another really damn good corner (Jonathan Jones) to injury and ended up trading away one of the best cornerbacks in all of football for peanuts. And they still have probably the best secondary in football, led by J.C Jackson, probably the player that I’ve seen with the most unfilled out Wikipedia Page for an NFL Superstar ever,, , and a guy who managed to have a whole ,ten ,interceptions in a single season without making an all-pro team, Devin McCourty, probably the most underrated safety of this era, Kyle Dugger, the breaker of the curse, Adrian Phillips, the one major signing of the 2020 season and Jalen Mills, of the great scorn from Philly fans, and have plenty more depth behind that. It’s honestly scary to think what this unit could be doing if the Patriots had been able to keep Gilmore around. Let’s see… Oh yeah, there’s the front seven… The Patriots ,finally ,got their hands on both the elite pass rusher they haven’t had since trading away Chandler Jones in the 2016 offseason, seem to have also finally gotten another potentially elite talent on the interior which they haven’t had since cutting Vince Wilfork in the 2015 offseason, got back their three best linebackers from the 2019 season after they all spent a year away from the Patriots. Ja'Whaun Bentley has finally taken that big step forward to fulfill that promise he showed in his rookie season before he got hurt, Lawrence Guy is still around, I could just keep going… This front seven is just ,so ,talented, and also so deep that even though of the four linebackers the Patriots have selected in the first three rounds of the past three drafts, not one of them has done much of anything this year and you can barely even notice. I guess it’s time to talk about the offense… Mac Jones is honestly one of the weakest parts of the team, and it’s honestly not even really his fault. The team around him is just ,that ,good. He’s certainly played the best of all the rookie quarterbacks this season, and has led the Patriots to a 9–4 record with some solid numbers. He hasn’t had any truly amazing performances, but I don’t think that really matters. Jones is talented, and while there’s some limitations, when considering the future, I certainly am not worried about him. I think the bigger issue is Belichick’s lack of trust in Jones… And I’m not really referring to that game against Buffalo (even if I do think the Patriots would have been better served trying to throw maybe a few more passes). In the game against the Buccaneers, while down by just two points on the fringe of field goal range in pretty shitty weather with fourth and short, the Patriots decided to… Kick the field goal… Which didn’t pan out very well… Even when they were lining up to take the kick it seemed like a mistake as Jones had played a pretty solid game to that point, and the odds of making the kick versus just getting ,three ,yards made it just such an obvious choice to make. If the Patriots had been able to go for it, convert, and then get themselves in range for a better attempt (which Folk could hit) or score a touchdown and they win, the Patriots record would be 10–3 right now. And then there was that Patriots/Cowboys game… Setting aside how that game was basically just ,all ,the drugs in the final few minutes, the Patriots again were faced with a fourth down (even if there should have been a facemask call on the previous play that would have given them a first down) and decided to punt the ball back to the Cowboys offense that they just couldn’t stop no matter what they did. And um… How’d that one work out again? If the Patriots win those games they’re 11–2, undisputedly the best team in the AFC and generally regarded as the best team in the NFL with those narratives of the Patriots still being bad even after the massive infusion of free agency money, the return of lots of veterans who had spent the year away due to Covid and the drafting of Mac Jones would have died pretty damn quickly. Instead… The Patriots lost both games… So that is a weakness I would point to for the Patriots. But that’s not the biggest weakness I would say the Patriots really suffer from. Their biggest weakness is just their offense. The problem with the Patriots is that when you look across the offense, it’s… ,Solid… Jones is a good young quarterback with talent, though not really someone you would call a superstar yet. Their offensive line is one of the best in football and an overall really damn good unit. Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson are a really darn good duo out of the backfield. Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers, Nelson Agholor and N’Keal Harry have made for an alright receiver corps, and Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith have been alright infusions at tight end. You see the problem though, right? The Patriots don’t have a truly elite offensive playmaker. They don’t have someone like a Rob Gronkowski or Randy Moss… They don’t even have someone like a Brandin Cooks or Corey Dillon or something. There’s no true ,star ,that the Patriots can turn to when they need to make plays and who other teams are forced to double team and respect at all times. And that’s their problem. While getting someone like Jerry Judy or Ceedee Lamb in 2020 or one of the top receivers in the 2021 draft like Jaylen Waddle or J’Marr Chase was off the table (and considering how the Patriots nailed the draft in general, probably not too necessary) in hindsight, 2019 stands out as pretty rough… An elite wide receiver talent who was projected to go at least in the top-20, fell into their lap in 2019, a year when they just really needed to get their hands on another elite offensive playmaker… And instead they selected N’Keal Harry. Credit where it’s due, Harry ,can ,look like an absolute stud in short spurts, has been dealt with what has been one of the most unmentioned shitty situations in the NFL, ,and ,is coming off of his best game as a pro… But um… That best game as a pro came for his ,blocking,, not his pass catching, and came with a muffed punt rather than his pass catching. I know we like to clown on teams when they reach for what amount to blocking tight ends, but I mean… When you’re drafting a blocking ,wide receiver ,in the first round… Over an absolute stud like D.K Metcalf… Yikes… Right now the problem is that the Patriots have a lot of really good pieces on offense. They have a rock solid offensive line which gives them a good foundation, and then a bunch of really solid other pieces at their skill positions. But there’s no true number one option, which is their problem. I maintain that someone like N’Keal Harry could make an excellent number two option + red zone threat, and Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers would be some of the best number two options in all of football. But they aren’t equipped to be that number one option, which is what the Patriots need to find this offseason. Things are probably locked in the way they are right now for the rest of the season, and this weakness probably won’t be that big of an achilles heel since their roster is still structured a lot like it was during their initial Super Bowl runs. However I still think that Belichick this offseason would be well-served trying to find that truly elite piece and that true number one option who can help take the offense to the next level, and ensure their team has better balance. Or get a time machine and draft D.K Metcalf… That would’ve worked too…
