iA, it all depends on what you mean by “best”. They’re also in completely different categories, in my mind. Land Cruiser is well-known for reliability and longevity, and lower maintenance costs (if you rely only on the dealer). On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz SUVs are known for long-distance comfort, cutting-edge technology (+ complexity), and safety. Their paint coats are much more robust than Japanese makes, in my experience. Hope this helps iA.
Because the turbocharged 4 Cylinder is all you need. 220 HP is more than anyone needs unless you pull boats all-day Is a high power motor that is proven in ll MB vehicles its goes like a rocket in my GLA 250…why even bother with a larger motor (or SUV)? It gets 28 MPG in the city….35 on the highway (at least mine does) So its perfect motor for 2020…and keeps emissions down Power to weight ration means its more efficient in daily driving
Because it’s designed to be cheap. Mercedes A, B, CLA, GLA are with so called MFA front wheel drive platform. Mercedes didn’t produce such cars before, but they had to do something to compete with the low class cars from other manufacturers. The entry level real Mercedes is C class. The E class is what built the Mercedes reputation. The S class is their luxury top car. All C, E, S and their GLC SUV use so called MRA rear wheels drive platform. The big Mercedes SUV are build with Mercedes MHA high seat platform. These are GLE and GLS class.
Sorry, but you cannot compare a GLB to an X5. You can compare a GLB to an X1 or X2 and you can compare an X5 to a GLE. But you can only compare an BMW M-model to a Mercedes AMG-model. So actually your question cannot be answered.
All car manufacturers today attempt to make these differences as small as possible by applying reusable building blocks. The simplest example in the mercedes case is the engine - the same 2.1 l Diesel engine is used for the 200, 220, and 250, mainly with different electronics. These engines again are deployed in the A, B, C, E, and S Class, as well as in the SLK roadster, as well as in the SUVs GLA, GLC, GLE, and in the Van (V-class), with minor differences for space reasons. And inside each of these classes in teh derivatives, like coupe, convertible,...The same goes for electronics, entertainment... From a consumer's perspective, pls check the sites on Wikipedia - they are different sizes, different types (see above), different reputation, different equipment, usually he latest technology is introduced first with the big engines in the upper classes.

To be extremely specific, I will start with the types of cars and the reason they were built. 1st the Mercedes-Benz CLA-class/GLA/C, including the 250, 45 AMG, 300 were built with the younger driver in mind. Mercedes wanted a car that younger audiences could buy and as they made more money they could make their way up to more expensive Mercedes cars. 2nd the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, this car was made for the middle car closing the gap between the entry level and the big game cars like the S-Class. I usually see older people driving it but there are a lot on the road so I'd imagine it's the car for a wide audience. 3rd, you have the SUVs, this includes the GLS, GLE, etc. now these cars are made for the family kind of person. People with families that can take them up to Tahoe and stuff. For the more wealthy families, usually they opt for the Mercedes-AMG GLS63. Families can take these cars to Tahoe, LA, etc. 4th, you have the luxury sedans, the big S. This includes the S550, S600, S63, S65, Maybach S600. Now the S is made for the more wealthy owners who want a car that is sleek and stylish while being cocooned in luxury. All of Mercedes’ technology are reflected in the S-Class, e.g. Semi-autonomous driving, self-parking, etc. These cars are the flagship model for Mercedes and that is shown very well. Lastly, you have the performance car. Currently being built is the Mercedes-AMG GT-S, this car has a ton of new performance technologies to Mercedes, including a 4.0L V8 with a turbo built inside the V of the engine, also called a Hot-V. This results in almost no turbo lag. This car is for the person who wants a car that can be taken to a formal event in Comfort as a GT car, but can change in a second to a race track and shred tires. A person with two personalities. P.S. The three last ones are my pictures because I was on my phone and it won't give you the stock pictures.
In my personal opinion I would go for the GLE 250 over the Range Rover Evoque. Even though I am a hard-core Land Rover lover (My love fuelled by the one I own) the Evoque has always been something I always saw as a “Mall Crawler” it by me has never looked like a get out of my kind of masculine SUV whereas the GLE 250 because of its sheer size alone feels more like what SUV’s used to be (And in my opinion how they should be) so if I had a choice between the Range Rover Evoque and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 250 ONLY, I would go for the GLE 250 not only because of its road presence but also because of its sheer size and utility but at the same time I would like to bring your attention towards the Land Rover Discovery Sport which is more true to the Land Rover philosophy, seats seven people and like all Land Rovers is considerably cheaper to maintain as compared to Mercedes (In my personal Experience) and last but not the least I suggest you to try every single vehicle in the segment as in the end the choice comes down to you and you never know which one you like. Peace Out.
