There are places that do this for you as bimmers are extremely electronic. Do not attempt this yourself. Personally, do not do this at all. Your car may never start again.
Do you just not like keys or are you trying to look cool. The ews3 system in a early 2000s bmw helps prevent theft. You own a nice car that has character and style all in itself. The whole thing is part of its character, including the Key. Just use the key. It is probably going to be the start of a bunch of repairs you’ll be doing to follow a unnecessary cosmetic change. Plus, if you’re not used to using keyless start you’ll probably forget and lock yourself out one day. That’s not fun. Just appreciated the car for its simplicity now before you try to integrate new technology in places it doesn’t “need” to be. Get a nice radio or tint the windows; something a little more aesthetic and functional. Just take on it. I tried to change things on my e46 model and realized later that there are bigger fish to fry regarding the repairs to come on these cars, like the faulty transmission module programming. I focused on making the drivability the best part about it.
There are a variety of solutions that are out there already. They’re not widely deployed, but they exist in some cars across the spectrum. Companies like Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes, etc have already added some subset of functionality to their cars control systems. In almost all cases that I know if, you need to use an app on your phone to control the car remotely, with the exception being some aftermarket CANBus connected remote start systems. There are constraints, but some allow you to run fans, which has some limited functionality, others allow you to run the AC, but you need to start the car for this to work in most cases. There’s also cooled seats, but I’m not sure if anyone has remote control over this. As I mentioned earlier, there are/were a number of aftermarket remote start systems (I believe Viper makes one) that allows you to remotely start the car and turn on the AC. Just about everything in the car that is electrically powered is connected to the car’s CAN (controller area network) bus, so as long as you can remote connect to the car, you can turn things on and off if the car can send power to those devices. AC is a bit different in combustion engined cars, in that they require the engine to be on in order to run the AC compressor. Electric cars that have discreet AC systems that are purely electric don’t have that requirement.
I can give you a different perspective here. I've been that guy, I've wrecked your car(sorry). Typically we are just extremely apologetic and will take a lot of abuse from you even though I'm aware that my company and its insurance company will have your car repaired within 2 weeks of notification. I've had 3 claims within my 2.5 years of valet. The first one happened after I took a Toyota Highlanders right rear wheel over a Sewer drain instantly annihilating that tire. They weren't too angry, but they refused our offer to change their spare for them(we just gave them a new wheel I believe it cost us 350). The second time I dropped a keyless remote start key fob to a new BMW X5 and couldn't find it for 2 hours in the rain. The thing still worked and had a couple minor scratches. That person was just rude throughout the encounter, we replaced her key fob for 400 dollars. My last claim occurred when I backed a Honda Civic SI into the corner of a garage causing moderate damage, the right rear tailight and bumper were cracked and the customer didn't even notice. I ,insisted ,we write up a claim for her even though she just wanted to leave. The claim cost 2600 to repair and cost me my job with that company since I now had 3 claims.
I used to be a BMW technician so I can safely tell you that up until the G body styles (2019+ X5, X3, 3, 5 and 7 series) no BMW has had remote start as a factory option. However, I can't speak on if your car has had an aftermarket system installed. The current generation BMW's do have a factory option called Pre-Conditioning. This option is turned on through the iDrive console. For a hands on demonstration of how to activate it, I recommend stopping in to your local BMW dealership and ask for a genius to help!

The BMW EWS III security system that is in your 2001 740iL cannot be bypassed at all. It uses a rolling code to handshake with the DME before it will start or activate systems and the fact you are trying to lock/unlock/start the vehicle without a key in the ignition is causing the security system to go off since it sees a discrepancy between the two modules since their rolling codes do not match. This can cause the modules to also go out of sync and can require a trip to a dealership or someone with a special cable and proper software to sync the EWS and DME modules back together. Essentially, it's impossible unless you do away with the factory security system and DME, and use your own standalone engine management and multiplexer and integrate the viper alarm into that.
Physically safe? Sure. This is a mild extension of features they already have (collision sensing, automatic braking, etc.). It's probably safer for the car and things/people around than you parking it yourself. Secure? Hard to say. Presumably all manufacturers have learned their lessons from the ,Jeep Hacking Fiasco ,and don't put car control on an open bus. Useful? I don't see it. Most people with simple remote start don't use it. The situations where this would be helpful (you want to pack cars in closely and ,they are all your cars,) are really very limited.
