What car would you guys pick… for having to drive daily? 2019 Audi A6, 2018 Cadillac Escalade, 2018 BMW 440i (m sport package). Also any other suggestions would be appreciated, along with logic as to why.
I drove the 2012 A6 for 4 years as a daily drive, was brilliant. So maybe I'm biased but I'd recommend the Audi. I had the 3l V6 TDI. Great to drive, lots of torque. I have a 2016 A4 now, also very nice. Smaller than the A6, bit easier in the city.
If a BMW 440i, Audi S5, Nissan 370z and a Mercedes E400 coupe lined up at the robots, who would you put your money on?
It’s gonna be close between the Audi S5 and BMW 440i. Basically it’s traction vs weight. The Audi S5 is heavier, but is blessed with 4 wheel drive, so it can put down its’ power more effectively. The BMW 440i is lighter and hence has lesser weight to impede it. I’d suspect it’s the BMW that will win though. Look online for power ratings and you will come across tons of forums where people have realised that the rated power for BMW turbo charged engines is the power at the wheels ,(i.e after deducting 15% transmission losses). Basically, if the 440i is rated at 320 horsepower, it’s actually making closer to 350 horsepower at the crankshaft in the engine.
Should I buy the BMW M2 Competition or the BMW 440i xDrive with the M Performance package? I am worried about driving in the snow with an RWD.
“xDrive” is akin to Audi’s “Quattro,” just a slick marketing term for four-wheel drive. So no worries, you’ll be good to go in the snow with the 440i. With the M package it will be 95% as sporty as the M2, the only difference being the weight difference. Both are super fun, but the 440i seems to fit your needs better. Just keep in mind that xDrive eats gas mileage, but when we’re looking at these cars, who really cares? Enjoy it.
Should I buy a BMW 435i or wait for BMW 440i with newer engine?
There are certainly pros and cons for each, although I see more advantages for buying a 435i over a 440i If you buy a 435i right now you know that years of engineering and testing (real world and shop testing) have gone into making sure the engine is reliable and tuned perfectly. If you buy a 440i right now, you will have less confidence in engine longevity. A lot of people buy new BMWs and keep them while they are under the 4yrs/50,000 mile warranty. in this case, I would go for the new 440i. If anything happens due to an engine malfunction, they will cover the damage. Either way, have fun!
