I’ve buy a Corvette for the money, honestly. Even if it’s not as objectively fast, it’s a way better car with a lot more potential. Or a Shelby Mustang GT350, or a BMW M2, or a number of other cars that are not hampering with the enormous weight and aging chassis the Hellcat suffers from.
Is it smart to buy a brand new BMW M2 convertible? I have always been fascinated with convertible cars.
I’d like to call a BMW M2 convertible a stupid thing. Why? What are the core objectives of a BMW M high performance car? Performance. For that goal they make the cars light, stiff, powerful and they add expensive things which makes it easier to convert a stock M car into a competition racer. They reduce weight by installing an expensive roof made out of carbon fiber, they install dome bars and reinforced suspension in order to reduce body flex. They do everything in order to make this car a few seconds faster on the race track. A convertible is exactly the opposite. The retractable top requires body reinforcements which make the car heavy. Nevertheless the body shows far less stability than a closed unibody with a roof. A hard suspension puts stress into the body structure, something which harms a car with a less than perfect body structure more in the long run. So, making a convertible out of a race car is the worst of both worlds. You say that you are fascinated with convertible cars. I can very much understand that, I had a BMW 325i convertible for more than a decade. I would not buy an M2 convertible, I would rather go for a BMW 2 series convertible without M technology, but with the biggest available engine. Over here in Germany, the 2 series convertible is available as 230i, which is a 4 cylinder 2 liter engine with 252 hp - this is definitely enough for this car. The M2 is a highly tuned 3 liter six cylinder with 370 hp. Unfortunately, BMW does not make small six cylinders anymore. So maybe you look for an used BMW 135i convertible for half the money of a new 230i - or one third of a new M2.
Which is better, BMW M2 competition brakes or BMW M2 CS brakes?
I think you mean between M2 and m2 cS I’m am not particularly sure if there is a difference in the brake disc materials or calipers but if I m right they should have carbon ceramic brakes with larger brake calipers probably 6 piston brake calipers most importantly the reason you can expect better braking performance from the M2 CS is that there are huge weight reductions in the m2 cS package lot of carbon fiber Lesser weight means better handling and better braking performance
Should I buy the BMW M2 Competition or the BMW 440i xDrive with the M Performance package? I am worried about driving in the snow with an RWD.
“xDrive” is akin to Audi’s “Quattro,” just a slick marketing term for four-wheel drive. So no worries, you’ll be good to go in the snow with the 440i. With the M package it will be 95% as sporty as the M2, the only difference being the weight difference. Both are super fun, but the 440i seems to fit your needs better. Just keep in mind that xDrive eats gas mileage, but when we’re looking at these cars, who really cares? Enjoy it.
What would you so say are the pros and cons if you compare the BMW M2 and the Audi RS3 against each other?
It basically goes down to the audi having more weight on the front axel. Besides the slight understeer the cars are very similar. If racing is your thing the rs3 is quicker than the m2 in a straight line. The M2 will be get quicker lap times around the track.
