@HooniverseJeff Well, I can't argue with that.
The Ford Maverick Has an Appropriate Namesake in the ‘70s Compact Car: via @MotorTrend
@RussellTOB @MetsBob @Sharklady57 Funny, several years after we married my husband and I bought an old 1974 442 green convertible. It needed a lot of work but it was a beast. Then, when we started a family it was mini vans and station wagons for years. Ugh.
The new 2022 @Ford #Maverick pickup might not look much like its 1970s namesake, but it has a surprisingly similar underlying mission. https://t.co/LbBB8NDwgP
I’m not able to review the new Ford having not driven said vehicle, however, I’ve seen pictures and I like the concept of a Hybrid truck, and being a Ford guy I give it 2 thumbs up.
The original vehicle was a typical 1970's compact car. I owned one and it was nothing write home about. The new Maverick is suppose to be anew compact truck for the 2022 model year.
A2A. Thanks for the question. Here’s my list: 2020 A Quiet Place: Part II ,- March 20, 2020: I loved the first film since it was a new take in the horror film genre by showcasing monsters that respond to sound. John Krasinski’s direction was superb and I look forward to seeing Emily Blunt and the others navigate this post-apocalyptic world. The trailer looks amazing and the film looks like it’ll explore more of the backstory behind what happened. Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou look to be good additions to the cast. Stoked for this movie. Mulan, - March 27, 2020: The original Disney animated film is a cherished film from my childhood and I’m a fan of Niki Caro, the director and her work. (I loved Whale Rider and the book; North Country was good too). It seems this movie will take influence from the original tale more so than the Disney film and it’s a bummer Mushu won’t be in it. However, Liu Yifei looks good in the role and the direction/production value looks awesome. Also a stellar cast with Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Tzi Ma, and Gong Li. Hopefully, it’ll be good although I do have my reservations. Black Widow, - ,May 1, 2020: The trailer and previews have been good so far. I’m excited to see this entry in the MCU since it looks it’ll shed more light on Natasha Romanoff’s backstory. The direction of the film by Cate Shortland looks amazing; looks like a Marvel version of Jason Bourne. Can’t wait to see this film. The Woman in the Window, - May 15. 2020: I’m a huge fan of Joe Wright ever since I watched ,Hanna, and Amy Adams who’s one of the best actresses working today. I was sold on the trailer and intrigued to watch this film. It’s cool that Tracy Letts wrote the screenplay. I got Hitchcockian and taut thriller vibes from what I’ve seen so far so I’m definitely intrigued. The Green Knight, - May 29, 2020: I read the original poem of ,Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and loved it. I’m interested to see how director David Lowery put his spin on the material. Also, I’m a fan of Dev Patel and the character of Gawain. The trailer piqued my interest and I got a psychological horror vibe from it which fits some aspects of the poem. The cast looks great: Sean Harris as King Arthur, Alicia Vikander as the Lady, etc. I’ll check this one out. Wonder Woman: 1984, - June 05, 2020: I loved Wonder Woman back in 2017 and I’m a big WW fan. Gal Gadot will knock it out of the park, I’m sure and I’m intrigued to see what her adventures will be in this film considering she’s going against her arch-nemesis, Cheetah (played by Kristen Wiig). My only concern is that the film looks to be very campy and Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord looks nothing like in the comics, but I’m intrigued to see what the film will be like. Top Gun: Maverick ,- June 26, 2020: The trailers and previews look good and I do admire the original Top Gun back in the 1980s. I look forward to seeing if Tom Cruise can stick the landing with this film. Hopefully, it’ll be good. Tenet, - July 17, 2020: I’m one of the biggest Christopher Nolan fans and I’m excited to see what this film will be like. John David Washington is perfect as the leading man in this film and I can’t wait to see the parts that Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki will play. The cast also looks amazing and the direction/cinematography looks amazing. A spy film with time travel as a plot device? Sign me up. Death on the Nile, - October 09, 2020: I like the previous adaptation of Agatha Christie’s ,Murder on the Orient Express, in 2017 done by Kenneth Branagh as Poirot and the director and this one intrigues me as well. I’m currently reading the book to prepare for the film as I did for ,Murder on the Orient Express,. The biggest selling point for me is the cast: Gal Gadot as Linnet Ridgeway, Armie Hammer as Simon Doyle, Letitia Wright as Rosalie Otterbourne, Sophie Okonedo as Salome Otterbourne, and Russell Brand in an unspecified role as of now. Looking forward to this big time. No Time to Die, - November 25, 2020: I’m beyond excited for this movie. Looks like this entry has everything going good for it. The trailer and Super Bowl spot were awesome. Daniel Craig has done great as James Bond and I’m looking forward to his final film; the 25th Bond film. Cary Fukunaga is an amazing director and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a co-writer is simply awesome. The cast is amazing: Rami Malek as the villain and Lashana Lynch as a new 00 double agent that Bond will partner with, and Ana de Armas being a CIA agent that will help Bond in his mission. I’m also glad the other cast members are returning as well. This is easily my most anticipated film of the year so far. Dune, - December 18, 2020: This is an ambitious project and Denis Villeneuve is one of the best directors working in the industry today. The cast is amazing: Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Atreides, Stellan Skarsgaard as Barón Harkonnen, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Zendaya as Chani, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar. This novel is one of the best regarded sci-fi classics ever and I’m planning on reading the book before the film comes out. Can’t wait to see this film. 2021 355, - January 15, 2021: Simon Kinberg is directing and the film is styled as a female led-spy film and the cast is amazing: Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, Diane Kruger, Sebastian Stan, and Edgar Ramirez. Intrigued to see this film. The Matrix 4, - May 21, 2021: I’m a huge fan of the Matrix trilogy and look forward to see what they do next. Good to see Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith returning and the new additions to the cast like Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Jonathan Goff, Priyanka Chopra, and Neil Patrick Harris interest me as well. Glad that one of the Wachowskis is directing and that John Toll will be cinematographer. Apparently, Warner Bros. loved the script so that excites me. John Wick: Chapter 4, - May 21, 2021: They might as well call this day Keanu Reeves day. I’m a huge fan of the John Wick films, though I still need to finish ,John Wick: Chapter 3,. The Batman, - June 25, 2021: I’m a super huge Batman fan and I’ve wanted Matt Reeves to direct a Batman film for some time and now I got my wish. The cast looks amazing: Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon among others. From everything I’m hearing, it seems like this will be a Batman film like no other with particular focus on his detective skills which is something the other films haven’t focused on. Greig Fraser as cinematographer and Michael Giacchino scoring the film is icing on the cake for me. Indiana Jones 5, - July 9, 2021: Looking forward to this next entry, but hopefully it’ll be the last. Harrison Ford is coming back, along with Steven Spielberg as director and David Koepp as screenwriter. I hope they do a new twist or new cultural/mythic avenue for Indiana Jones’s next archeological adventure. Hopefully, it won’t be a bust. Mission: Impossible 7, - July 23, 2021: I adore Christopher McQuarrie’s MI films that he’s directed so far and excited that he’s doing a two-parter which he’ll film back-to-back. I’m a huge Mission Impossible fan and I like what Tom Cruise has done so far. I like the direction for the franchise which is going to a more serialized fashion. I’m glad the cast members are coming back including Rebecca Ferguson, although Jeremy Renner hasn’t been confirmed yet. The new cast members intrigue me the most: Hayley Atwell, Nicholas Hoult as the villain, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and the return of Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittredge is something I expected and am glad for. I think this film may surpass ,Fallout,. Also, the film is coming out on the 25th anniversary of the original ,Mission: Impossible, film. The Suicide Squad, - August 06, 2021: I’m a huge DC/Suicide Squad fan, but I didn’t like David Ayer’s 2016 film. Having said that, I’m excited to see what James Gunn has in store for the sequel. Idris Elba as the leader this time around intrigues me. The other cast members look great including John Cena and Henry Braham is DP on this project which is another reason I’m into it. And King Shark will be in the film which is what I wanted after the 2016 film. Thor: Love and Thunder -, November 05, 2021: I’m a huge fan of the MCU and love the comics; Natalie Portman as Lady Thor is awesome. I’m glad they’re taking influence from one of Jason Aaron’s run on Thor where Jane Foster became Thor. Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and the queen of Asgard sounds exciting and interesting and there’s rumors that the Enchantress will be the main villain. Christian Bale is also in talks to join the cast so that also adds to my interest. Can’t wait to see what Taika Waititi has in store this time. I plan on reading the Lady Thor comics soon. Avatar 2, - December 17, 2021: I didn’t much care for the first Avatar, but the special effects were amazing. This film and the other sequels have been in development for a long time and I’m interested to see what James Cameron is able to do. Black Adam, - December 22, 2021: This film has been in development for years and Dwayne Johnson has been attached as the character for some time. Now, it looks like the film will be made. Jaume Collet-Serra is now director and Lawrence Sher will be the cinematographer. What also excites me is that the Justice Society of America will make an appearance in the film. Filming starts in July 2020 and I plan on reading some Black Adam comics to prepare for this. Looks like DC is finally moving in the right direction. Sherlock Holmes 3, - December 22, 2021: This film has been long in the making after Guy Ritchie’s explosive Sherlock Holmes films. Glad that things are moving along. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are coming back to play Holmes and Watson respectively. Rumors are that the film will be set in America during the Old West era. Dexter Fletcher is directing and Chris Brancato from ,Narcos, has written the script. So I’m intrigued to see what happens. 2022 The Flash, - July 1, 2022: I’m a bit of a Flash fan and I am intrigued to see what Andy Muschietti does with the film. Horror directors that transition to comic book films have done good (i.e. James Wan, David Sandberg). This film has been long in the making and apparently, Flashpoint, a great comic by the way, will be the main inspiration. Christian Hodson, who wrote Birds of Prey will write the script so that sounds promising. I’m not fond of Ezra Miller’s portrayal as the Flash, but I’ll check out this film to see what happens. Mission: Impossible 8, - August 05, 2022: The final entry in McQuarrie’s two-partner which I assume will be his and Tom Cruise’s last film. Like I said before, the cast looks amazing. Hayley Atwell, Nicholas Hoult, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny will be back as well. Can’t wait to see this conclusion. Aquaman 2, - December 16, 2022: The next entry in the Aquaman franchise with Jason Momoa returning as the titular character. Rumors are that this film will introduce the Others, a superhero team from Arthur’s past, and that I like a lot. I read Geoff John’s run on Aquaman from 2011 which is what these films have taken inspiration from. I’m excited for the cast to return and that Black Manta will be the main villain, it looks like. David Johnson is returning to script the film and James Wan is returning as well. Looking forward to this film.
Ford is definitely on a roll lately. The Maverick truck promises to be useful, with both passenger space (4-door) and cargo, and will be a hybrid, and will be sold at a reasonable price. Car and Driver magazine is excited. Expected starting price is just over $20,000. That’s a game changer for sure. Buy one and toss it in the bed of your F-150 Lightning!
Future Cars Worth Waiting For 2021-2025 Our sneak peeks of the most promising cars, trucks, and SUVs of the next few years. Even in the age of next-day delivery, self-checkout, and gigabit internet, some things can't be rushed. The cars, trucks, and SUVs seen here won't reach dealer lots for anywhere from a few months to a few years. Some of them are about to roll down the assembly line. Others haven't emerged from the design studio yet. We're telling you about them now, though, because these are the vehicles that will matter, regardless of how many boring crossovers automakers puke out. These are worth the wait. This video will give us information about future cars. 2021 Alfa Romeo GTV It's difficult not to love Alfa Romeo's Giulia Quadrifoglio. In spite of the sports sedan's tragic reliability record, it's still an absolute joy to drive and looks incredible. Who wouldn't want that in even sexier form, like, say, a two-door coupe? Good news! One is on its way, and it will resurrect the iconic GTV name and add electrification to the Quadrifoglio's 505-hp twin-turbo V-6. Expect up to 600 horsepower. 2021 Alfa Romeo Tonale The upcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale promises to be a rare beauty in a sea of luxury-subcompact crossovers. Plus it's Alfa Romeo's first hybrid model. Previewed by a concept model at last year's Geneva auto show, the production version should arrive later this year, starting around $35,000. 2024 Aston Martin Vanquish Aston Martin's next Vanquish will be a mid-engine supercar targeting the defining dream machines of the moment—cars such as the Ferrari F8 Tributo, Lamborghini's Huracán replacement, and the McLaren 720S and 765LT. Previewed by a concept car at the 2019 Geneva auto show (pictured), the Vanquish should start just north of $300,000 when it arrives in 2023. 2021 Audi e-Tron GT Audi's electric e-Tron lineup grows for 2021, with the shapely e-Tron GT joining today's e-Tron (no name, just e-Tron) crossover. There's no dancing around it: the GT is aimed squarely at Tesla's Model S. Audi is hoping it will deliver more than 250 miles of driving range and nearly 600 horsepower from a pair of electric motors (one per axle). Underneath its ,Blade Runner ,exterior hides, the same J1 architecture developed for fellow Volkswagen Group member Porsche, for its Taycan EV. 021 Audi Q4 e-Tron The Audi Q4 e-Tron is smaller and cheaper than the e-Tron and e-Tron Sportback, and it's aimed at the core of the crossover market. The Q4 e-Tron was initially previewed by a concept car (pictured) shown at the 2019 Geneva auto show. It will be the fourth electric Audi to come stateside but the first to use VW's MEB architecture designed exclusively for electric vehicles. It, too, will offer a slightly sleeker Sportback version. 2024 BMW i8 M BMW is working on a follow-up to the plug-in-hybrid i8 halo car, which in and of itself never really lived up to expectations. Previewed by the 2019 BMW Vision M Next concept car, this yet-to-be-named replacement (we've taken to calling it the i8 M) should place greater emphasis on performance than its predecessor did. It could also set the Bimmer world on fire with its retro M1-inspired style—it could have rear louvers, people! 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 The upcoming Chevy Corvette Z06 will be the first of several upcoming ultra-high-performance variants of the C8 Corvette. We expect it to go on sale in early 2021 as a 2022 model, starting at about $85,000. It will use a naturally aspirated DOHC 32-valve 5.5-liter V-8. Plus, it has a flat-plane crank, just like a Ferrari V-8. It should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm, spit out 600-plus horsepower, and shriek like something from Ferrari. 2022 Ferrari Purosangue SUV Ferrari is finally taking the leap and building an SUV. For a brand that built its reputation on racing (cars, that is), this new project is quite the departure. For now, the creation is being referred to by the Purosangue name, which is Italian for "thoroughbred," and will go up against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan—if not in pure performance, at least in price. 2022 Ford Fusion Active Selling a station wagon in an American car market infatuated with SUVs is a risky play for a manufacturer. But once Ford kills off the Fusion sedan later this year or early next year, a lifted version of that stigmatized-yet-highly-practical type of vehicle will soon be as close as shoppers will come to finding a new family car in a Blue Oval showroom. Enter the Ford Fusion Active, which we've seen in spy photos and leaked images so far. 2022 Ford Maverick In a move that's sure to shake up the truck establishment, Ford is planning a third pickup model that will be smaller than the mid-size Ranger. Built on the same unibody platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport crossovers, the Maverick could be a true compact truck the likes of which we haven't seen in some time. It's slated to arrive later in 2021 or in early 2022, possibly with a starting price in the low-$20,000 range. 2022 GMC Hummer EV In an amazing twist of fate, General Motors' gas-guzzling middle-finger-flying Hummer brand, discontinued in 2010, is poised to make a comeback for 2022 as an all-electric sub-brand of GMC. The GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup truck offers up to 1000 horsepower and GMC claims it's capable of blasting from zero to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. It's set to go on sale at the end of 2021 in loaded First Edition form, with an SUV version to follow. 2022 Honda Civic Type R Honda confirmed that a new Civic Type R is on the way, and it should have a more mature look as previewed by a prototype of the 11th-generation Civic sedan. The second red-badged Civic to arrive in the U.S. will have a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood—hopefully with a better soundtrack—mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and Honda didn't rule out a quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission, either. We've heard rumors about a hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain, but we think it's unlikely—at least at launch, which should be toward the end of 2021. 2023 Hyundai RM20 N Of all the newcomers to the mid-engine segment, no vehicle highlights the current sports-car zeitgeist quite like a mid-engine Hyundai, which could be called the RM20 N. When it arrives in two or three years, expect the Hyundai to bring mid-engine dynamics to a new level of affordability. As we understand it, the decision-makers in South Korea are still weighing whether their car should be a $40,000 Hyundai or a $70,000 Genesis. In our minds, there's no question. It's too soon for Genesis to challenge Corvettes and Porsches, but a proper sports car could validate both N and Hyundai. 2021 Hyundai Santa Cruz The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the automaker's foray into the pickup market. It follows Honda's approach rather than the formula that American manufacturers perfected. The unibody truck will be offered with a single bed length, a four-door crew cab, and a choice of four-cylinder engines. We expect to see Santa Fe's 2.4-liter and turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. 2022 Jaguar XJ Jaguar's full-size XJ sedan is getting old, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the seductive four-door. Time marches on, however, and Jaguar is looking to replace the XJ (however handsome it is now) with an all-new model for 2021. And Jag is going bold: The next XJ will be fully electric, with some 300 miles of driving range and DC fast charging. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Early in 2021, Jeep will launch an entirely new Grand Cherokee. It likely won't make it into buyers' hands until later in the year, as production has been delayed. What those new owners will get is a Jeep based on a version of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform found under the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV. The Grand Cherokee will be significantly longer than the trim little Stelvio, though. Not only will the Jeep's wheelbase surpass the Alfa's 110.9 inches, we expect it to be longer than the current Grand Cherokee's 114.7 inches. Not only will be roomier than the outgoing model, but it will also offer a three-row version with up to seven seats, as pictured here in spy photos. 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Jeep is bringing back the iconic Wagoneer nameplate for a new full-size SUV offering. Shown so far in concept form, the Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer will compete with the likes of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. They will use a version of the Ram 1500's body-on-frame platform, with the Grand Wagoneer being the more luxurious version costing over $100,000 fully loaded. Three rows of seats will be standard, as will four-wheel drive. We expect V-6 and V-8 engine options along with hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. 2023 Land Rover Defender 80 The upcoming Defender 80 is a new baby Land Rover set to be positioned below the recently revived Defender in the brand hierarchy. If it reaches the U.S. market, it could provide a more affordable entry point to the off-road-oriented Defender range. U.K. media reports have named it the 80—given that Land Rover calls the two- and four-door Defenders the 90 and the 110, respectively—although there is no confirmation of that. 2022 Lexus LQ Lexus is still lacking the modern, high-end SUV that virtually every other luxury vehicle maker has to offer affluent shoppers. The upcoming Lexus LQ, which will serve as a sleek range-topping crossover, should address that shortcoming. Previewed by the LF-1 Limitless concept (pictured), the longitudinal-engine LQ should share key structural elements with the LS sedan. It also should share its powertrains, including the 416-hp twin-turbo V-6 and its 354-hp hybrid powertrain. An F performance model might even pack a twin-turbo V-8 good for 600-plus horsepower. Maserati MC20 The upcoming MC20 is a mid-engine reminder that Maserati exists. Rather than a successor to the ultrarare, hyper-expensive MC12, the MC20 is a run-of-the-mill six-figure Italian sports car offered in both coupe and convertible forms. Maserati promises that the MC20 marks the start of a new phase in the brand's history, which it desperately needs if its vehicles are going to be relevant again. Maserati recently released technical details about the MC20's twin-turbo V-6 engine, which will produce 621 horsepower.
