lexus rx tuning Q&A Review

I bought a Lexus RX 330 in immaculate condition with approximately 130 thousand miles on it. There are no records to show if the previous owner did a major tune up with a transmission flush. Do I do the flush or not?

When I get my car serviced, the shop will sometimes show me a sample of the transmission fluid using the dipstick and say it is the wrong color and it should be flushed and changed. Can they check for you?

How many CCs for a 3.5 engine of a Lexus RX 300, 330?

The advancement of this new extravagance hybrid began vigorously in 1994, and before the finish of 1995, the last plan had been closed down. Model vehicles entered a testing stage in mid-1997, which corresponded with the public presentation of the Sports Luxury Vehicle, or SLV, an idea at the Chicago Auto Show. insulation Lexus RX300 Lexus RX 300 The creation vehicle was dispatched in Japan in December 1997 as the Toyota Harrier and afterward delivered to send out business sectors from March 1998 onwards as the Lexus RX 300. From the beginning it turned into the top-rated model inside the Lexus line-up, getting half, all things considered. Its unitary development was basically a raised and built up adaptation of a contemporary cantina vehicle stage, which managed the cost of the vehicle a ground leeway of 185mm – enough to adapt to practically any go romping condition a rural SUV may experience. In contrast to more utilitarian rough terrain vehicles, the RX's body was intentionally smooth and traveler situated, with an open lodge that even permitted walkthrough access between the front seats. Lexus RX 300 There were three petroleum motor alternatives, which were all transitionally mounted. The base unit for the homegrown market was a 2.2-liter 140hp four-chamber (front-wheel drive just), while the 3.0-liter 220hp V6 found all through everything markets could be determined in one or the other front-or four-wheel-drive designs. The lone transmission accessible was a four-speed programmed with 'steermatic' move catches on the controlling wheel. Lexus RX 300 Midlife invigorate was applied in 2000, which among different things included precious stone style headlights and back focal points. It additionally incorporated a 2.4-liter 160hp substitution for the first four-chamber powerplant – an overhaul that permitted the passage model to likewise be accessible in one or the other front-or four-wheel-drive variations. This facelift additionally denoted the vehicle's first authority appearance in the European market, where it was showcased as the RX 300 and just conveyed with the more impressive 3.0-liter motor mated to four-wheel drive transmission. History of the Lexus RX: second era The RX 300 adequately made the extravagance hybrid fragment and stayed on special for a very long time, selling around 370,000 units around the world. When of its substitution the model was all the while selling unequivocally however various contenders had now ripped in available. So the subsequent age model was intended to propel the first idea, being more noteworthy regarding size and force, while at the same time more effective and more affordable. Lexus RX 300 The new RX showed up in February 2003, only one month after its see at the Detroit engine show. Its all-new however developmental styling was unmistakably sleeker than previously, confirmed by an improved 0.35Cd drag coefficiency figure (prior adaptation was 0.36Cd), while for most of business sectors the motor and drivetrain blends were practically indistinguishable. The lone contrasts were that the 3.0-liter V6 presently accompanied a five-speed programmed transmission and top-grade four-wheel-drive models could be determined with electronically controlled air suspension. The North American market was exceptional in being provided with a bigger, 3.3-liter 230hp variant of the first V6 motor. Due to this, it was known as the RX 330. Lexus RX 400h Diesel power has never been offered in the RX however another full mixture model showed up in March 2005 (June in the UK). In addition to the fact that this was the world's first creation premium mixture vehicle, it denoted the dispatch of the eminent Lexus Hybrid Drive framework. Lexus RX 400h The model's full-time four-wheel-drive crossbreed drivetrain consolidated a somewhat de-tuned 211hp form of the 3.3-liter US-spec V6 motor with a little however amazing high-voltage, rapid electric engine offering 167hp. This blend drove the front wheels through a CVT gearbox and a recently evolved decrease gear, while the back tires were driven by a second, altogether autonomous electric engine with the greatest yield of 68hp. As a full crossbreed, the vehicle was equipped for being worked in both petroleum and electric modes alone, or in a blend of both.

What type of car do you drive and what does that say about you?

I have a 2006 Lexus RX 330, which says: Dear Ex-Fiance: Because you breached the unspoken contract we created when establishing a commited relationship, I purchased the car we planned to save up to buy with the money I was given for our wedding. A white car in lieu of our white wedding, *sigh*. Now I can confidently drive our child around in a safe, family friendly vehicle and she and I can jam out to Disney tunes with the stellar stock sound system! I got to keep my last name and avoid a lifetime of regret so all is quite swell :)

Lexus owners - after you got used to your Lexus, was it worth it? Would you buy another one? Why or why not?

I’m a huge Lexus fan girl. I’ve been driving Lexus cars since 2003 so I’m qualified to answer this. I also worked for two Lexus dealerships in what feels like another life. I now work in the health and wellness industry so I do not need to drive a Lexus other than by choice. These cars are built with crumple zones that will absorb the impact of an insane collision so that you won’t necessarily die. I’ve had friends and loved ones that have been told by highway patrol after their cars have been totaled that had they been driving a different car they’d be ,dead. What most folks don’t realize is the flagship LS 400 that debuted in 1989 is that it’s inception and creation took years in the making to the tune of over 1 billion (US) dollars. It was a work of art and no one had seen or driven anything like it at the time. So yes it is worth it. Our family has owned the LS, RX (three of them), IS (four, leased between the hubby and I) ES (three used), & CT hybrid. Our eldest drives an RX, her first car was an ES a year older than she was. Our middle daughter drives a Toyota Corolla that’s almost paid off and our youngest drives an ES330. My ride today is a 2018 NX300 F Sport with the prettiest red interior with black trim. The brake assist when you’re on the verge of hitting something is a bit off putting the first couple times and the lane assist with radar cruise control has made me spoilt. I wouldn’t be driving this car if I didn’t have a business to lease it. They are quiet with luxurious cockpit style interiors. Not plasticky or pleather like some other luxury brands my friends drive that trim pieces fall off of. I miss my IS that my hubby now drives, but in a few more years it’ll be time for our ,next lease and it will be a Lexus. Note: All of our vehicles are paid off with the exception of my NX. Thanks for the A2A. Haters need not comment. Mahalo for your kokua.

How can I get a reasonable estimate of the maintenance costs of a Lexus RX 350 and Honda CRV over 6-7 years?

I would say look at the recommended maintenance schedueles for each vehicle based on mileage. Calculate the number of average miles you drive in a year and how many times you would need to take your car in for regular maintenance for that year. Multiply the # of maintenance visits by 7 years for each vehicle corresponding with the manufacturers recommendations and your driving habits. To find out the price comparisons, call your local Lexus and Honda dealership and ask them the cost of routine maintenance (oil change, tune-up, etc) You should then be able to see which is more cost effective to own in the long term. An (x,y) plot or (cost, year) plot can visually show you which would be more cost effective. There may even be a break even point where no matter which vehicle you choose, the cost will be the same at a particular amount of time. After that point is where you will be able to determine which is ‘better' in terms of maintenancr costs over time. ***This is assuming there are no vehicle issues like common leaks or component failure that would create a margin of error in your calculations.

How does Acura MDX compare with BMW x5 and AUDI Q7, in terms of performance and maintenance after 3-4 years?

In short… Its a comparison of a Horse and a Mule! Horses are high maintenance, eat more, run faster and have shorter life than Mules which are economical replacements of horses. (not in derby though!) Acura MDX does not compare to either in terms of performance, its just not good enough to compete with the likes of Audi or BMW. The maintenance costs are much better (cheaper) as it doesn’t need the extra care like a performance vehicle. If one looks realistically at the brands like Acura, Lexus, Infiniti these are just catch-up brands from Honda, Toyota, Nissan respectively to compete with Audi, BMW and Mercedes. They have only one formula keep it cheaper. You’ll never hear Acura or Lexus advertising 0–60 mph times, power or capabilities of their power-trains or showcasing any innovative technologies built of their own, as its neither their focus nor their forte. A Honda Pilot with different body design becomes a Acura MDX (even RDX offers same powertrain), a Toyota Highlander becomes a Lexus RX350. And yes they tune the engine to give 10 more hp in each case, rest all is superficial and people pay $20k more for it.. all in the name of reliability! The Acura MDX is very reliable indeed, gives better fuel efficiency, has comparable utility features and with lower maintenance, even the spares are cheaper. All this with a decent performance - A 3.5 L V6 with 290hp / 267 torque and with decent equipment overall (Lexus RX has exactly the same specs!) and costs $10k less than the comparative BMW/Audi model. The BMW’s and Audi’s are built to perform, the key goal for any of their product is to meet certain performance standard, especially the mechanical parts. A BMW X5 35i (the lowest version) has a 3L engine which gives 300hp/300T and Audi Q7 has a 3L 333hp/ 325T. Both use turbo/supercharged engines giving more performance. The driving experience both on-road and off-road is way better, driving dynamics and additional features such as air suspension add further value to these vehicles. Now coming over to the maintenance part, most people would mention reliability of Japanese brands as the prime factor to own these vehicel, which is great indeed as these go to service centers much less than any other brand. Germans are not far behind having 5 issues per year (Audi) compared to 3.5 (Acura) doesn’t make them unreliable. Recent Acura’s (2012 or later - Avg 12 issues) are not as great and have more issues, 2014 is the worst. (Avg 30 issues) After 4 years, though you’d expect to spend a little more on an Audi Q7 or a BMW X5 than a Acura MDX however, if you plan to keep these vehicles long term 8–10 years or beyond 100k miles, the cost of ownership would come pretty similar. You can compare the numbers yourself on the roads, how many older X5/Q7’s you see to how many MDX’s you see… you’ll know. I expect a cost of ownership to be around a $1000 per year (4–10 years) on the MDX, and 25% more on the other two but then Acura MDX’s are prone to transmission failure at around 120–150K mile mark (2001–2006 MDX’s are breaking a lot). Audi Q7 are much better than the BMW X5, Q7 would easily go upto 200k miles without much issues, the common problem being electrical and infotainment. BMW’s are more prone to mechanical issues which is the primary reason for lower resale values after 5 years, though with proactive care and extended warranty the costs could be lowered and X5 could easily match-up the Audi Q7. In long term Acura MDX and Audi Q7 will have similar overall cost of ownership, BMW X5 a bit higher. So to conclude, its a personal choice… If you’re keen on performance or capabilities Audi, BMW, Mercedes or similar luxury brands would be you choice. If you’re looking for reliability, economical vehicle which gives you more peace of mind then Acura or Lexus should be your choice.

Will a car with wheel axle problems (makes "tack tack tack" sound when you press the breaks at higher speeds) last longer if not driven as often?

When depressing the brakes. Maybe its a issue with brakes. It also could be a issue with tires but much less so. I’m tuned into all my cars. I listen to noises and feelings of operation. Always been that way! No noise goes unnoticed. Years ago my cars were so much less reliable. I had Chevy Station wagons forever. Front end ball joints after 20K miles. Idler arms same. The automatic trans miss shifting. Now I have a Toyota Solara convirtable 2006 with 60,000 miles and have not had a single issue. Its my wifes car. I have a Lexus RX-350 with 30,000 miles and it too has been 100% perfect. I’m still at 77 changing my oil at 3K miles. Rotating tires to keep my hands on the cars. The newer cars are so much more reliable.

Aren't Lexus cars just Toyotas with fancy seats?

In some sense yes, in others no. Lexus has some models that are shared with Toyota. There are some that are unique to Lexus. Some examples of shared models RX/Highlander ES/Camry/Avalon NX/RAV4 Then the ones that are the “good” cars LS (400/430/460) GS (400/430/460, the V8 cars share no engines with Toyota) IS These share very little in the chassis with Toyota, but can share some drivetrain components (engine/trans). An example, my Lexus is a 1998 Lexus GS400, it shares almost nothing with a Toyota other than does say Toyota on many parts and the glass (which was changed later due to customer complaints). Toyota DID sell this car in Japan as the Aristo, but this chassis was designed for Lexus. But I don’t consider this sharing like the ES/RX/NX etc cars do. The fit and finish of Lexus is much better than Toyota, the materials are much higher specification. The cars are just so much better in so many ways. Saying that Lexus is just a Toyota with better seats isn’t anywhere close to a statement worth entertaining. Anyone who thinks that has never had a Lexus. Note the V8’s such as the 1UZ-FE and 3UZ-FE were never used in a Toyota, but the 2UZ-FE was used in the trucks, it was not a high performance alum V8, but a iron block meant for the truck line. Although similar, it wasn’t tuned like a Lexus V8 was/is.

Would you recommend a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla for a first time car buyer?

I would recommend an older Toyota Corolla (2013 or older). Except for fit and finish, this car is completed fine tune on power train. The Corolla will give you great gas milages, their engine is timing chains. It requires little maintenance; engine air filter, cabin air filter, oil change & brake for the first 110k miles, and possibly just engine coolant flush after 110k, their transmission is not a CVT. As for Honda Civic, I would recommend you to buy any Honda Civic with 2.0 engine with no turbo, all makes with turbo will wear down the engine faster than naturally aspirated engine (turbo makes piston ring wear faster). Honda 2.0 is legendary for their reliability dated back to their old Honda Prelude 2.0. Therefore, I believed the new civic with 2.0 engine will Last you a long time. I also used to own Civic 1.5L, 1.8L, and 2.0 Si, none of those civics ever give me any problems. Stay away from anything v6 that made by Honda, I used to own a V6 Accord; new battery at 34k mi, new brake rotors, pads at 48, new driver side front wheel bearings, at 63k mi, and new engine at 72k mi. I traded it in after Honda gave me a new engine. Most of my vehicles now are TOYOTA, I strongly recommend you to to buy Tacoma, or 4Runner. These two vehicles will last you at least 15–20years with no trouble. If you can afford a little bit more, try Lexus RX, Es, or IS. They are all good vehicle with TOYOTA TQM (Toyota-quality-management), something that only Toyota does in house.

In what parts of the world are convertible cars unfamiliar, or viewed as undesirable?

In Africa generally and Nigeria in particular convertibles are so undesirable, this is my opinion for many reasons. Weather: for 9 hours out of 24 hours there is sun shine, I mean enough to fry an egg kind of sun shine, so it would be crazy for an individual here to buy a car that could only be enjoyed at night or in the early mornings. And during the rainy seasons it could rain for days non stop. Security: Nigeria is not 100% safe, (it's not Canada), at most stops you have street hawkers shoving apples, oranges, bananas, soft drinks and even dogs in your face for you to purchase, so you have to be alert and have your doors locked all the time (friendly advice),some, people specialize in breaking windows and robbing occupants in broad day light in some parts(not not all) so having your roof down and enjoying the 100 degree heat and sun glare could result in you ,donating, your phone jewelry wallet and other prized processions to those who may need it more( usually at gun point). ,Note: ,this only applies in some places not all. Practicality: you see most convertibles are two seaters (Audi TT, CLK, MX-5 Miata) so you can't have that as your daily driver, we in Nigeria move in large numbers, so for those 4 seater convertibles (BMW’s, Golf, Peugeot cc, Volvos and may be the Evoque convertible) you have limited storage space for carrying stuff. And we move stuff a lot, I think we created the term overloading. I for example purchased all the drinks for my wedding at one spot and transported them to my house with just one trip, try that with your CLK, by the way I drive a Toyota Matrix. Show off Factor: Yes we in Nigeria are show offs, yes we are,and I am, we love expensive big shiny stuff, phones, makeup, designer outfits, houses, private jets and cars, and when it comes to cars the bigger the shiner the better, I daily see cars like Hummers(all three generations), Range Rovers, Range Rover sport, Porscher Panarema, Lincon Town Cars, Escalades, Land Crusers, G-Class AMG, GL- Class, ML-Class just to mention a few in my town, I have seen one or two old generation Mazda MX-5 miatas, BMW Z3 and a lot of CLK convertibles. And they don't look flashy at all, we usually laugh because of how low they are to the ground and how cramped the occupants look, they look like tightly ,packed sardine,. Functionality: a convertible is for that individual who wants to enjoy the thrill of driving, enjoy the sensation of wind in the hair, the sound of that lovely engine hitting that lovely note at the rev limiter…….,LOL,. NOT here men, find the dream road first, also I have seen a Land Rover Discovery stock in mud in the middle of town, the average C-Class has some difficulty negotiating the terrible roads, I mean our roads would stress ,trail rated Jeeps, ,during the rainy seasons some roads are closed, I have seen waist and chest high puddles in my life time on roads. So the last thing you want to go out with is a two wheel drive Miata or Z3, they would last a month tops if used daily over bad terrain or for long trips. Repair and maintainance: a convertible has more moving parts, meaning more things to go wrong both mechanically and electrically, economically things aren't really easy here, we have a few major motor dealerships, only Benz,BMW,Porscher and a few others, so parts are usually gotten from the local spare parts markets, and they are never new parts, so good luck getting your extra rare rag top or any other convertible component, you probably have to place a special order from the dealer abroad and ship that sucker into the country, by the time it gets to your door step it costs a fortune, now the big question, who's gonna fix and install it for you, good luck with the YouTube videos men. My country is a land of struggle and survival especially for the middle class citizen, so purchasing a sporty convertible is just the beginning of your woes. Besides those who can afford to purchase and maintain these vehicles and run them on a daily bases make up only about 10% of the population. As for me I love me some Nissan 370Z convertible, with Nismo tuning and Magna flow exhausts. But my old Toyota Matrix would do. Finally, if I want the feeling of a convertible, I'll get into a Lexus RX, a Venza or my old Mercedes W124 and open the sun roof and have a blast, I usually have to do so in the mornings or during the nights (to prevent a medium rare cooked brain), they are not convertibles, but they would do for now.
