subaru recall Q&A Review

When Subaru had a scandal plus a vehicle recall last year (2018), why don’t they (plus, Toyota) contact France's PSA (Peugeot Citroen) automobile company to merge with them so that they should have put an end to recalling cars?

ALL vehicle manufacturers have had vehicle recalls, not one has escaped it. There is ZERO benefit to Toyota merging with PSA Group, because there is too much overlap in the cars they make. PSA Group bought Opel and Vauxhall from GM because both Peugeot and Citroen are brands that are perceived as having reliability issues, whereas the Opel and Vauxhall lines are seen as more reliable. Both Opel and Vauxhall also sell very well, in the UK it is typically Vauxhall and Ford vying for the top selling car each year. Toyota and PSA Group merging would benefit neither company because of the expense of buying the other out, and PSA Group now have all the models in all markets they need the same as Toyota do. They will not be merging EVER, and merging wouldn’t stop or solve vehicle recalls.

What's behind the Subaru recall for Imprezas and Crosstreks?

Subaru is recalling over 400,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix problems with engine computers and debris that can fall into motors. The first recall covers 466,000 Imprezas from 2017 through 2019, and 2018 and 2019 Crosstreks. Subaru says the engine computer can keep powering the ignition coil after motors are shut off. That could cause a short circuit and blown fuse. Dealers will update software and replace coils and front exhaust pipes if needed. The second covers 205,000 Imprezas from 2017 through 2019 and 2018 Crosstreks. The aluminum positive crankcase ventilation valves can fall apart. Debris can enter the engine and cause power loss. Dealers will replace valves if needed. If a valve has separated and parts can't be found, engines will be replaced.

Do I turn in my leased 2018 Subaru (Impreza) and buy an older Subaru because 900,000 including my year and make have major recall issues?

a recall on a car is not always a bad thing, the recall issue will be taken care of at no cost to you. you have a great car if you like it buy it or lease a new one.

I bought a brand new Subaru WRX STi with the short throw shift kit added to it. A month later the dealership calls and says they need to remove it and put the stock shifter back in because of a recall. What should I do? It shifts just fine.

Wherever the kit is made should have the recall information. You should call them and verify. If it’s real, ask the manufacturer if there’s a fix and what the problem is. You can decide if it’s worth it. Some shift kits break at the linkage so you’ll end up going into neutral or stuck in gear, which you definitely don’t want. Others are too easy to knock into neutral, which might be more palatable for you to ignore since your times when neutral will cause problems are few, providing you use your emergency break when you park like a good boy.

Which Subaru cars and models are impacted by Subaru's recall of 400,000 cars and SUVs of October 24, 2019?

If you go to ,Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), you can likely find far better information than anyone will collect for you here, and you can also put the VINs of your other vehicles into their search engine to check for open recalls and TSBs on them as well.
