What are the reviews from a Tata Hexa owner?
I recently moved to India and having owned SUVs like BMW X5 (still with me), Toyota Landcruiser GXR V8 5.7 Ltrs, Mitsubishi Pajero V6 3.8 ltr, GMC Envoy, etc. I have driven virtually every popular SUV you can think of. An Avid Offroader and a certified Desert Driver, I know what to look for in a SUV. I started by looking up each n every Foreign Brand who had any kind of SUV… from Toyota to Honda to Ford to Merc, BMW, Audi, etc. I could say two things… first - the concept of SUV is so much mistaken in India. Calling Innova or BRV as SUV is such a fundamental mistake. Just because these cars have a Wagon shape does not qualify them as SUV. But I am learning the Indian Cars Vocabulary. I was grossly disappointed by the cars offered by these big brands and the prices were simply unbelievable for a decent car. For example 1.4 Cr for Landcruiser and 3.6 Cr for Range Rover… cmon.. you cant be serious. Then I moved onto Indian brands. I saw so many XUV on road, I thought I should check this car out. I went for a test drive and the first instance, I was disappointed. The car lacked power, it has cheap plastic interiors and above all it is not a SUV but a Crossover. First thing to qualify to be a SUV IMHO is to have Ladder Chassis not a lateral one sedans, hatchbacks and CUV are built on. Its a primary factor. Then comes the 4x4, Low range gears, Differential locking, Traction control (manual override), and other features like ABS, EBD, etc. After all the disappointments, I checked on Hexa… a brand new car just launched by Tata. I called for a test drive and I was offered a fully automatic 4x2 Hexa XTA. I drove it and instantly felt good about the car. It felt solid on the road with good grip, had some muscle to pull off the heavy load and interiors felt luxurious (comparatively). When I checked the price, I liked it even more. So, I asked for another test drive… then another and then another. More I drove it, more I loved it. Then decided to buy the XTA over XT model as I had to select between Automatic gearbox or 4x4. Looking at Bangalore’s traffic, I felt an Automatic is an important requirement than the 4 wheel option. Since, I am not yet sure of off roading in India, but city driving would definitely be routine. I can simply say that, Although I may not like the shape a lot, but I like the car the way it drives. Hexa has benefitted from Range Rover’s tech and features which was earlier not accessible to Tata. At the price point, I would only recommend two SUVs for any Offroading… one would be Tata Hexa XT and other would be Isuzu DMax in India. These two offers the best bang for the buck and while Isuzu looks very much an offroader, Hexa would perform well in both Offroad and City driving conditions. I wish Tata had a 4x4 fully automatic which would have been my first preference.

Whats the coolest most reliable old car that you can almost use as a daily driver?
For me, it will be the 2011–2013 Toyota Land Cruiser. You can drive it for as long as you want just to keep the car well maintained it will run for 20 years easily even if it reached 800k Km its gonna work totally fine. Maintenance is also very cheap. It is a 7 seater and you can get a V8 engine. the parts are super easy to buy and are cheap. it's also a great offroader. The GXR trim is the best you get all the features, Sunroof, Infortaintment screen, Camera, GPS, And Bluetooth.
