What’s more fun to want than to actually own?

Most Cars. In 40 years I have owned 30+ cars. At each point of ownership - I wanted something else. It is having an “Optimizing” mindset rather than a “sufficing” mindset. My wife is happy with a Toyota Landcruiser. Big, old. imposing, reliable. Me: I owned………..………………………I wanted Austin 1300 1977……………Any new supermini Austin Metro City 1984.……BMW 3 Series Mitsubishi Lancer 1.2……….Volvo Estate VW Beetle 1972……………….Porsche 911 (went through 4 Beetles) MG Midget 1100cc…………MG Midget with less rust and working engine Landrover Diesel……………..Landrover Petrol (went through 8 Landrovers) Landrover Petrol……………..Landrover Petrol V8 auto Landrover Lightweight…… Landrover LWB 5 dr Landrover softtop…………….Landrover hardtop Landrover SWB………………..Landrover 109 LWB Landrover 109 LWB………….Toyota Landcruiser Toyota Landcruiser ………….Toyota Alphard Mercedes Vito 109……………VW Transporter SanggYong Musso 2.8………Toyota Landcruiser Suzuki Every 660cc Auto……VW Kombi. Harley Davidson Fatboy - only for show and shine.. not for driving. Modern recreation - Pennyfathing Bicycle. In another 20/30 years - I will be to old to drive safely. So why bother to own them in the first place?

What is that, "this only happens in Asia" thing?

A few things “Ikat tepi”, tying raffia string on the side of clear thick plastic bag, with drinks inside, and a straw through the open end. People from first world countries don’t get why we do this, they will say “you people don’t have cups?). Good question, we do, but this method is cheaper. Asian baby hammock. In the old days, it was hand operated. Nowadays there is a electric motor with a reciprocating system. It really helps babies to sleep. Sarong, a skirt like covering worn by men, for the lower side of the body waist down. If you don’t tie it properly, it could drop. Singlet. Usually worn by older asian men. Kinda like a tee shirt but sleeveless with a thin bra like strap. Pasar malam or night market, a weekly occurence at every housing estate. Starts about 5pm and closes about 10pm with small individual stalls selling mostly cheap foods and cheap clothes.Blocks roads.. Kapcai’s cheap small capacity engined motorcycle, never seen in 1st world countries. Motorcyclists are by default have the right of way before cars, and any accident that happens, is the car drivers fault..Don’t ask…Riding in between cars in traffic in excess of 80kmh is the norm. Luxury MPV vans, Toyota Alphards and Vellfires. I dont see these sold in Europe, UK or the US. Asians see this as a status symbol, useful also here as we tend to have large families. Of course only the rich buy these. Double parking, occurs in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, but not singapore. Its illegal yet still happens all the time. this occurs so often that a sticker to place the phone number of the offender is sold here. We just love automobiles and cant live without them, nevermind the incovenience to others. 9. No Uber here, but Grab 10. Tiny cramped cheap cars If i notice more in the future, I will update this.

Why are there no luxury minivans?

Come to Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and other selected parts of Asia and you'll find that getting driven around in Toyota Alphards. These have become extremely popular over the past 10 years. A base one might not be luxurious but they can be optioned up to be extremely luxurious and I can tell you from personal experience, I'd much rather be driven around in a Toyota Alphard than a Mercedes S class. The ones I have been in have almost business class like seats in the back with a legrest.

Why is this Kia so expensive?

Everything is expensive in Singapore. In Russia such a KIA is 20% the price for a base model which is very competitive and about half the price of a Toyota Alphard which is a direct competitor.

What screams "I'm from Singapore”?

What draws Singaporean tourists to Bangkok, the City of Angels? A: The Grand Palace. B: Floating markets. C: Khao San Road. None of the above… Trust me. Singaporeans have their distinctive traits known all over, other than SHOPPING, they love EATING. No sumptuous food places in Bangkok that die-hard Singaporeans don’t know how to find… That draws Singaporean tourists to Bangkok. " You -NO-come in, okay!”, A waitress said to P.C. my wife’s friend, a Singaporean who was a latecomer, she also pointed at the sign-in Thai - which translated to simple English,, “,Only for customers in the queue.", ,P.C,., stunned and stood still while her family, in line for 20 minutes earlier, were enjoying their Wanton Noodles inside the eating place. Is the Wanton Mee worth queueing for,? That was the question I asked when I saw a long line at Zap x2, a small restaurant for famous Wanton Mee and Pork leg rice in Phetchaburi Soi 19 in Bangkok. (,Photos,),Zap x2 (double-shiok) draws more Singaporean tourists than the Bangkok’s Grand Palace daily. Every day,,, rain or shine, a common sight to see Chinese tourists and Singaporeans forming a long line all day at this Wanton Mee place. While most Thais give it a miss after a bowl of noodles kept rising from 60 Baht to 100 Baht in recent years, due to the influx of tourists. It will soon skyrocket to 120 and 150 Baht. However, that won't stop die-hard Singaporean tourists from joining the line. ,As for me, the best Wanton Mee is in Singapore. Not only Singaporeans have a culture of queueing, but also their DRESSING and EATING. Wherever they are, I can spot Singaporeans from far away, YES, ,the attire that screams: ,“ I ‘m from Singapore.” Thus making Singaporeans stand out among others in Southeast Asian countries… It’s summed it up as… Singaporean teenage girls, from sweet 17–29 ,will come in a group, dressed in tiny denim shorts you can find at the Platinum Mall spending hours buying stuff by the dozen and by night at shopping malls all over Bangkok. Photo,-,Platinum Mall,, ,Bangkok,. Singapore families, with kids, in simple dresses, some come with their maids. They will choose to stay only at 5-star hotels for the safety of their kids, the mothers will shop for kids’ stuff with a mindset, “ If I don’t buy- spend the money on airfares for what!” Even though what she bought- Singapore has all of them. you will find them by day at the amusement theme Parks, Kidzania (,one mother said: cheaper and more fun here than the one in Singapore), ,cats and dog cafes. By night, at the shopping Malls downtown, or where good ice-cream and dessert outlets are around the hip area in "Thong lo or Sukhumvit areas." A group of NS boys, will dress in a casual T-shirt and shorts and will find them by day at Terminal 21, and Phetchaburi Soi 19 and by night at Pat Pong risking a fight with Thai thugs… no sweat! Photo,: ,Terminal 21 Shopping Mall, Bangkok. The 30-plus, up and coming ,Singaporeans will come to Bangkok as couples, who usually stay at Airbnb places and hunt for MICHELIN Guide Restaurants, paying 6000–7000 Baht each for dinner., ,You will find them at Bo.lan, Jay Fai’s omelet crab, among others and will shrug off Hawker Chan and Boon Tong Kee in Bangkok. The 40-plus to 60, Singaporeans in businesses, will dress in anything that goes and will see them at the four-faced Buddha shrine, Yaowaraj Road, Chinatown hunting for the famed Fatty’s Kuay Chap and shark’s fins by day and by night at Soi Cowboy. Rich-class/ business bosses ,Singaporeans are well dressed in distinctive casual outfits for golf games, in a group with a chauffeur-driven Toyota Alphard or SUV Mercedes Benz. You will find them on the golf course the whole day. By evening they are at Chinese restaurants and by night at Exclusive VIP membership clubs. Shopping is not their cup of tea. Last but not least: The aunties & uncles retirees, will come with one of their daughters as group leaders. They dress casually, most with waist pouches, others wear hats though mismatched but comfortable for them—, like what they used to wear back home. ,You will find them by day at Pratunam Market, a weekend at the Chatuchak Market, and by night at Talad Rot Fai Market., ,They buy anything that comes in the ways, with a motto, “,Buy first- go home - throw one side.” All of the above is my observation from traits of Singaporean tourists, who are lovers of EATING, SPEAKING ENGLISH and the DRESSING, that scream, “ I’m from Singapore.” ,Mind you - ,pretty accurate!
